Was just thinking if one day we'd ever see an Aussie bowhunting tv show, something along the lines of Rex Hunts fishing show. Each week the host goes out and learns about an animal and maybe plugs one, alittle tech talk, and more hunting.
How do you think a program like this would go on telly? I was thinking a late night sbs timeslot to actually show impact shots , or a toned down earlier version showing the stalk but not the kill...
I wonder how the general public would perceive such a show?

mate i always dream of a show like this. i don't think a bowhunting only show would get enough viewers though. what could be the go would be to have a general 'outdoors' type show, with fishing, 4wd, camping, rifle and bow hunting.

True Humphrey, an all in one show would be great and perhaps just what Aussie tv is missing (something else to do when i win lotto  ) But i reckon a bowhunting only show could hold its own.
It still amazes me to this day how efficient the bow is. I remember the first bowhunting mags i read and simply couldnt believe that guys were out in the Aussie bush chasing huge hogs and bufalo with bows and arrows. How many times do you tell someone you bowhunt who then looks at you dumbfounded, wondering if your serious? I reckon people would be just as amazed as i was in those early days if they 'channel surfed' onto a bowhunting show, which could lead to a huge increase to the Australian archery marketplace, hunting and bowhunting in particular.

Years ago A Big Country on the ABC had a special on Ian Fenton a very well known bowhunter back in the seventies. They went hunting with him out in the Macquarie Marshes but at the end they would not show a pig being shot with and arrow. I doubt if there will ever be a bowhunting show in Australia on T.V. free to air anyway...Glenn...
I also have dreamed about a show like this...I agree with humphrey though, it would have to be about the outdoors and not just bowhunting...they should be able to show it if we tell them it;s part of our cultural heritage  . hell i've seen rifle shooting, spearing, dogging and even whale harpooning on tele. why not show some bowhuntin??

Ted Nugent stars in a show very much like you describe, and it is shown weekly on cable TV in the US.
I think it is part of the ESPN network :?:
I wish, When I was in the states I had 8 channels purely dedicated to hunting some of just bowhunting.
Can't see anything like that kicking off here unless we pull together with a shooters assoc that has the same views on the situation. so we could have rifle and bowhunting on the same program. Should get a far few viewers, most men are intrigued by hunting and some woman as well.
you could only hope hey.

Cam great idea..in theory..but I think all the sensitive soles may get a tad squeamish seeing the kill..but just in the unlikely event that it did work...I bags that you get to kiss the pig :!: :!:

Remember that well about Ian Fenton. They took footage of the guys stalking pigs but no arrows taking them. Was a real let down to the guys that were involved.
I know several women and girls that hunt not only with bows but with rifles and dogs. The do gooders call it a blood sport but I have taught my family to hunt and fish from an early age and in my opinion and my wife's it hasn't hurt their self esteem one bit.
If it ever becomes down to survival of the fittest I know my family will be able to look after themselves in the bush.
Would love to be able to see a show like that once a week but with our small population and the extremist we have we are a small voice. And the more we argue amongst ourselves the more we will become divided.Sad but true.
Long before the Fenton Big Country Bob Doring had Big Country come up wanting to do a special on how the bowhunters reduced the pig numbers on Curtis Island saving the nesting broglas, that's as I remember it anyway, it was back in the seventies or late sixties, there might be other people around who might know the story better. But they woudn't get out of bed and get out early enough to get the footage of the pigs and bowhunting,, after a couple of days they had no decent footage of the bowhunters andthought the whole thing was abit of B.S. and went home and no story. There was a bowhunting movie being made in the seventies on 16 mm film, I don't know if it was ever finished or what happened to it, Ian Fenton would know. I don't know where Fenton is these day and haven't had contact with him for several years, he is probably the best bowhunter to ever hunt in this country. You coulld make a very good documentry on just the info that he has in his possesion. It would be good to get all of this down on video and get a live interview with Ian. He was a very good photographer and developed all of his own photos.
Pay T.V. in the USA is good with constant hunting and fishing. Our small population works against us in lot of ways. Unlike us they have a big manufacturing base of archery, hunting and fishing equipment and big outdoor shops like Cabelas and Basspro who can make their own tv shows on hunting and fishing using the goods they sell...Glenn...

I was in the states last year and there is a couple of cable channels that are dedicated just for outdoors which include everything from hunting with a bow to a rifle and everything else that has do with hunting. And there on 24/7. Will it happen here only if all the different associations such as ABA, 3DAAA, SSAA etc get together wth their members petition the cable companies here in OZ to maybe show some of thse shows here. I mean if they put crap like big brother on TV why not a hunting show which would be more educational to watch. And as for the Antis and the greenies which should do what they do make a lot of noise, it seems towork for them.

FYI they do have a bowhunting show on espn at some stupid hours and you get to see a few deer called in or stalked then plugged with an arra, good watching imo they have some tech talk too but its mostly just for american whitetail hunting!

Big Bother evictee kicked out by rspca!
First of all, I DONT WATCH THE SHOW! but was just reading in the paper how the latest evictee was booted out by a campaign against him by animal protection groups after he admitted he killed a kangaroo with a bat after running it over.... just goes to show, one sentence can have very big reprecussions (sp?) ... especially when animal lib freaks get going.
I guess a bowhunting show is a few years off
