I recently got back from NZ where I spent 3 weeks visiting my best mate and hunting. I really wanted to get on to some Red stags but unfortunately my mate had ciatic nerve in his back and he couldn't hike!
This meant that I spent roughly 12 hours per day for about 4 days straight hunting red stags (by myself)! Anyways, long story short, I learned a lot about deer and I am heading back over there for the roar again next year and I'm confident that I will take a few. Sadly, all my attempts on deer failed! However, I got within 30m of two red stags on two separate occasions but I didn't have my bow! I basically learned that wherever you go over there, you take your bow.
All in all it was an awesome trip with lots of motorbike riding, hiking, possum shooting and relaxing. Here are the pics...
The area that I was staying is called the Akatarawa Valley and it is North of Wellington. About 1 hours drive.
