I am getting into making some knives as it is something I have always been wanting to do but can not afford a bought forge so decided to build one using plans from the internet Ok got the gear together during the week to have a go at making the forge.I managed to find all the fittings and regulator and hoses at work so no probs there and used the gauge from an old tyre inflator.I was having some trouble finding a suitable forge body when I saw this guy while getting ready for stocktake. It is a cast iron water main Tee and is 150 inside dia. so is perfect and has the place to put the burner pipe in from the side.1st pic shows all the bits so far and the tee with some feat I put on today and the 2nd pic shows a close up of the burner pipe before I cut the tube to lenght and soldered the mig welding tip for a jet.I have the ceramic wool coming next week to line it with so hop to be up and running by next weekend.
Cheers KIM
PS I will post more pics as I go along and feel free to ask any questions. :D

Mate just a word of caution, those watermain fittings are made of cast iron and are coated with enamel.
I'm not sure how the enamel will react to the heat it might pay to remove it first.
Cheers Mate

Thanks Paul for the tip but with the lining thats going in the tee it should not really get too hot to touch or so the others say that have built one like it.
Hood.Know what I am doing who told you that.
It is for that reason I have not put all the details in this post caus if some one else goes ahead and builds one they can do their own research and understand how it works before building one.I guess I should have put a disclaimer in at the start but the plans are easy enough for people to find if they want to anyway but DONT TRY THIS AT HOME, THESE STUNTS PERFORMED BY A COMPLETE IDIOT AND SHOULD NOT BE COPIED. :D
Anyway back to the fun stuff I tuned the burner tonight and just with a tempery flare on the end got it to burn real nice so will make a perm. one tomorrow.
Cheers KIM.
