View Full Version : Trad bowing for birds
Im really interested in bird hunting with flu flu's. What are the restrictions in Aust, and has anyone done this sort of thing here.
I'm getting some bird heads next week and full length feathers.
Are crows legal to shoot :?: . Im planning on laying down near a sheep carcass and trying my luck. Only interested in shooting birds in the air.

Great minds think a like mate I am setting up a bow for this also and was talking to Dave Pender about Flu-Flus and how to make them. Also hoe to make your own bird heads.I think crows are actually protected in Aus but we might be able to come up with a design of a device that throws somthing up in the air to shoot. :D If you had the necc licence I could not see why you could not shoot ducks in season. That would be awsome to go down on opening day amoungst the shotguns and harvest a couple of ducks for the pot.HE HE.

Crows are protected. . :?
Not sure but I think it's TOTALY illegal to shoot any bird with a bow in OZ.
But go to NZ and its open season on the magpies
Flu flu's are awesome for a bit of fun, Dave Whiting and I were putting a video together about 5 years ago now. All we shot was recurves and longbows, most of our game was taken from around 10meters. We shot a bit of the game with flu flu's so you could see the arrow perfect on vidoe.
Sheep eye pecking buggers.

Yeah they look easy- just hole drilled though the middle and the wire looped through it, not sure how wire loops are joined :?: they may be soldered..
If you use the fishing trace stuff you can heat it and it welds togetther.

The reason you can't have a go at the ducks with a bow is that it is illegal.
Ducks taken under a mitigation permit or during the open season (Which I donĂ*t think QLD will ever have anymore) must be taken with a shotgun.

somtimes when i see a nice fat pigeon in my yard i have the urge to shoot it. never done it YET :P. Pigeons are gud Eatin'
I have been told by someone who hunted the turkeys on the bass strait islands that is was not that hard. They cannot smell you and just rely on sight. Apparently was very disapointing after all the yank hype about turkey hunting......

norfolk island was the one with feral chickens i think...
as for US hype and turkey hunting, don't forget that we have a different specie of turkey here hence different "difficulties" in hunting them...
Luke :D
