View Full Version : Outbacks Photo of the Month

adam
13-03-05, 05:50 AM
The photo must be of you or taken by you to enter.
The photo must have been taking within 2 months of the month entered.
Its judged on the quality of the photo not the size of the animal.
Dead line for photos is the last day of the month and winner is announced here a few days after.
The prize is your choice of 12 outback broadheads by our sponsor and member Woody. (Allan Woodward)

don't mean to be a snob,
but after many years of bow hunting and using lots of different heads I have found that the aussie heads can't compete with the flash yankie things ....

This is mortons 1 and only post. He joined on the 1st of June and won the photo comp for May???? How is this possible when the photo has to be submitted by the last day of the month in question???
I thought the quality of the photo was the issue not the game featured. I think Hoods first fox and recurve photo craps all over another deer pic  not to mention he features 1 of woody's heads in the photo  ...

With only 1 competition on this site how about supporting the "real" members of the site, not just one post wonders...

Cheers, Cam ( i dont like mondays )

Nice deer and well done Morton but hope you can see where i'm coming from

It was the only photo I have been sent (personally; that is sent to ME, as I'm now running the comp) and so it's the winner...my apologies for not checking with you all if you agreed...or for checking the rules....

All I did was read the post saying "what's doin with the comp and why haven't we had the winners announced yet bla bla bla"...I thought..."oh that's right, I meant to do that but overlooked it" went looking for the pics...found (and have) only that one, so it's the winner for may....

I'm sorry for not meeting your expectations of perfection and professionalism in this one little area amongst all the other things I have to do in my life...

I think making allowances of one day given I had not gotten any other photos for the comp is quite OK...but then again, I am only site Admin...

I thought the quality of the photo was the issue not the game featured. I think Hoods first fox and recurve photo craps all over another deer pic not to mention he features 1 of woody's heads in the photo ...
Was this pic specifically submitted for the photo comp? IE. was it emailed to a mod or admin member for this specific reason? Surely you dont expect us to keep track of all the pics posted, when they were shot, what they were shot with and who shot them; on the site and download them for submission and consideration in the comp? :?

My concern is that he might be insulted & not accept an uncompetitive Oz made broadhead, should an apology be be sent with or before the broadheads.

Maybe I'm wrong, when they're generously donated, the quality might improve, & be worth accepting :?: :?:

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, (spose no worse than not meaning to be a snob) but what a crock of crap, this whole thing is

Things admin should have cleared up before announcing winners ..

Try this " Hey members the photo of the month comp is closing for May email me your pics for judging, i have only 1 entry so far and he doesnt like aussie b/heads so get in your photo's asap" ...

took about 45 seconds ...

Luke
06-06-05, 03:49 PM
Axe...please explain...what do you mean by a croc of crap...what is?

Hood, please send your pic and I'll consider it in this month's comp. I feel that to award Morty the prize and then reopen the comp for that month is a tad unfair. So, mate, send it in and I'll judge for June's prize.

PLEASE SEND ALL PICS FOR THE COMP TO ME AT:
lukeagriffin@yahoo.com.au
or
dimple125@hotmail.com...

whichever floats your boat ;)

I believe at the time Ad's said to send them to Baz, I had not indicated my wish to return to site Admin...so I guess it's been a bit of a miscom between Admins etc...these things happen...

Axe...please explain...what do you mean by a croc of crap...what is?
Luke :D

Two issues Luke:

You made the decision re the winner, I disagree, but that's life.
Morton bags Oz heads on his first post ( this includes a forum sponsers product ) then enters the comp to win same. On a personal level I would've thought that his slight would have made him ineligible, especially considering the bagging Bern5 got (deservedly) over his indiscretion.

The fact that you were instrumental in the "birth" of this forum & your continuing presence as admin makes it obvious that you hold it dear to your heart, & you do deserve credit & respect re your efforts.

But, getting on your high horse re your efforts & dedication as well as making sarcastic remarks everytime someone challenges or asks for an explanation for something Admin has done is crap, because this type of response doesn't resolve the issue, quite the opposite, it inflames it.

There you have it

Sparra

Gaday fella's...I agree that the winner should have been a member before winning a prize,if Woody is good enough to donate them and there are no pictures for that month then he's saved a few broadheads and we all look forward to the next month...don't give them out for the sake of it...What i don't agree with is cams statement about admin should have reminded people...we all know its a monthly comp and if we can't be bothered to,or forget to send in pictures well so be it...Woody's saved a few more heads..soon you'll be wanting the boys to come down and wipe your arse!!!!!

Things admin should have cleared up before announcing winners .....

I was not asking for a reminder... (obviously you miss-read that) I was stating that if the rules have changed ie: where photo's are to be submitted, then how about informing members??????

So you agreed with the rest of my post but thought you'd mention me by name with the parts you didnt agree ... .....

My main point was Luke is soooo defensive of his site and sponsors yet awards broadheads to a member who has had 1 post in which he writes off aussie heads / our site sponsor .. i'm all for woody saving his heads, as for wiping my arse , you really make me wonder.....

Sorry boys but I'm not into wiping people's backsides

I'm a bit surprised that some people think I should not only be checking the entire site for pictures that might be elegible for submission to the comp, but also reminding you all when the month's coming to an end (what, don't you own calendars?) and doing back ground checks on all those that submit entries...what do you want me to get ASIO on to it for you? Jeeze!!

Here it is! I was forwarded these pics from Adam whom had received them from Morty...I got the email, thought wow, nice deer, good pic...I got no other entries and thus inadvertantly forgot about the comp (please forgive me as I have not been running it for about nine months now); a small oversight really. Upon reading the "reminder" I looked over the pics Morty had sent Ad's -had sent me, picked what I judged to be the best one and put it up. Sorry about taking it for granted that Adam had not checked Morty's member status or finger prints .

Morty was a member when he submitted the pics, regardless of wether he'd made one post or 100 I don't really care. Why should I? He has as much right to the prize as anyone. Also, irrespective of the content of his post he is still in the running and equally as entitled to be so. Heck if I took into account the "worthiness" of members for prizes based on their number of posts and wether or not I agreed with their points of views and opinions, there'd be nothing short of a conundrum of gigantic preportions each time the month's end came around! Also, what better opportunity for Woody to show how good his (Aussie) heads are than to send them to someone who thinks Aussie heads are crap!??? Most of us know how good they are and I have complete faith that Morty will come to "see the light" after having used his 12 free heads from the woodster.

That is so childish ..."what's the point of being grown up if we can't be a little childish sometimes"...Unkown...

Oh no it aint Hood! ...just wondering where you think this is going to go from here Coach? Do you honestly think that is the best way to convince admin to change the decision? Really? Hmmmm...

Luke

Luke

No, but, the pic was submitted after he became a member, and given that there were no other pics submitted for May I thought WHY NOT...NO ONE else has put their's in...so WHAT's it MATTER!!!

well, pardon me.

a little story if i may,

a blokes goes into a new pub for the first time ,they have a weekly VB comp going .everytime you buy a beer you get a ticket to win a carton.
funnly enough the guy buys a VB even though he is a XXXX drinker.
he drinks it and tells a few blokes that now he knows why he still drinks XXXX . VB tastes like crap.

it just so happens that the comp is drawn while he is
there ........and he win it .

a few guys say good on ya .but a fight starts up because a few of the regulars think he shouldn't be able to win the comp.

Hes just a drop in,they say .
not a regular.and get very vocal

luckly the guy gets out of the pub in time and is not hurt.

QUESTION. do you think he'll go back to that pub.?

who looses out ?
ANSWER... everyone.

leaving the pub

I guess i should clarify my point as i was the one who started this s/fight.

It was not an attack on morton or his red or the picture, it was a dig at admin for not following rules, and reacting in a knee-jerk manner to a post asking for a winner.

I had my knickers in a knot from the day before when bern came to this site and posted his link to his site, then got torn a new ring piece for just suggesting hunters to unite. Then it became a debate of looking after our sponsors and promoting their products. I thought it was ironic to then, the next day, award our only competition to a person whose one and only post was detrimental to our sponsor (can you see what i mean). Then i noticed Morton wasnt even a member for the month he won  :?:

Anyway, its over now

Congrats again morton, keep those posts comingl

Hood that is a VERY well posed picture!!! I especially like the way you left the least asthetic part of the hunt out of the picture

Well deserved set of outbacks!!!

Thanks Baz and everyone else.

You probly right there Jindy, But I do have a rabbit property only 35min away....Mmmmmmm I wonder how long she will sleep in in the morning

Barry I took a few picks of the vixen before the clean up and then thought how would it look all cleaned up. Hunting is blood and blood is hunting but I must say that it does look a lot better with out it. So thats what I did and there you have the final product a clean pic.

I was very hessitant at first about submitting the pic, wondering if it was worthy of being submitted amoungest the other game that I have growen to envy of some of the more fortunate hunters here, hence the reason that I failed to submit it last month (or was that two months ago  )

I do feel humble thou, and very appreciative of being able to submit it for last months round.

Well thankyou very much, been a pretty rugged few days for my family, nice to have something looking up.

Now, my intention on entering the comp, was I lucky enough to win the B/Heads, was to give them to one of our junior hunters.

This hasn't changed, so providing Admin & Woody don't mind, having noticed young Macka seems to be out there do'n what it's all about, I would like the heads of his choice be sent to him.

Well talk about fast! The heads arrived here today and straight after school i put them to the test and had a few shots. I was shooting well with them and would have had them in a 6-inch group from 45m and was touching arrows from 30. They are sharp and in the quiver ready for Sunday i am going to see if I can bag a Billy or maybe even a deer :D . Once again thankyou heaps for your generosity and I feel very privileged to have been chosen to have them :) Will post how the hunt went Monday night

Coach,

Frustrating is a good word, it was almost dark, I could hear him snorting but could not see him through the timber. It seemed like ages before he decided to move out into the flood plain and try and wind us from a safer distance. We played cat and mouse with this critter in the dark for about 20 minutes before we made it back to camp

Very exciting.
