age old game

Way back when I was just a pom freezin me butt off in england, we used to do a bit of re enactment stuff, braveheart sort of get up and generally have laugh...anyway there was this game that some bloke started and he was sure it was a trad archery game... a bunch of blokes stand in a group and one by one fire their arrows up into the air....not broadheads but clouts...a big conical tip made of softwood...anyway the first bloke to step out of the group...usually due to last minute panic...and anyone actually hit by an arrow...is out of the game...maaan what a laugh...yer almost pissing yer pants...and when it gets down to only two or three stupid idiots left...it is really difficult to whack or not be whacked...specially when you're a short arse like me and the big blokes just pick you up use you as a shield...

yep and no one really got hurt too bad...the worst thing was you'd be looking up trying to see an arrow coming down and thinking "this is not a good idea..." :lol:

So can you side step an arrow as it comes down as long as you stay with in the circle?

It reminds me of one of the most stupid things i have ever done (its a long list ;)) ..

On my first ever bowhunt i was 17, me and my best mate wondered how far up in the air our arrows would travel, so my mate came to full draw while i stood beside measuring the angle to make sure it was as vertical as possible. "ok mate thats perfect, let 'er rip" ..

We stood in amazement watching the arrow go higher and higher til it reached its limit. The arrow then turned side on and, well, what goes up :shock: ..

With absolute horror we instantly saw the stupidity of our action and both took off screaming in different directions. We were running madly over very rough, un-even ground, the whole time looking up at this arrow (with field tip) bearing down on us...

Luckily it fell harmlessly in between us... :oops:

If I ever get to go to one of the meets I'll bring some clouts along and we can have a go..I loved this game....a bunch of blokes screaming like girls running every which way with their hands over their heads.... :lol:
