Hey, this is more just a question as to how much a semi decent second hand recurve or longbow would go for... I have a compound but I've been wanting to try a wooden bow of some sort for a while. Do any go for under $200?

Not 'semi-decent' ones, you may get an entry level for around that much.

Yeah I guess that's what I'd be looking for, I've never been hunting, I usually just set a target uphill and shoot at it. Would an entry level be at all useable for a hunt though?

I draw the string with my right hand... sorry that I'm not really in with the lingo, but I'm guessing that makes me a righty.
I guess I should also say I'm pretty much straight on 6ft tall, if that helps at all in selecting a bow. Maybe I should write a good story for a magazine to get some of the funds for one :P
G'day Aimless.
Why don't you get on down to Archery Mart on South Road Clovelly Park and try before you buy.
You can get a good entry level curve or long bow for between $230 to $300.
It's only a short drive from Henly Beach and if you want I can give you details for the Southern Field Archers Club at Hallet Cove so you can go and join and get some practice in for hunting.
Any questions just ask. We could also catch up for a yack and shoot some time.
top man Hood
Aimless do your self a favour and take Hood up on his offer for a shoot.

Ah another Adelaidean!
I got my compound from Archery Mart, walking into that store for the first time amazed me, heh, all those bows hanging up. Thanks for that piece of info, it's been a while since I've been in there so I'm a bit rusty on prices and all that.
I think, one day, I'll definitely take you up on that offer. At the moment I'm busy with Year 12 and I've been a bit lazy getting my driver's license, but hey, if you're free at the end of November I'll see you there :P
Thanks mate :)
I got a samick TD hunter in front the states and i think it only eneded up being about $200 to get it here and all. I have shot a few goats with it and although not the nicest recurve to ever shoot its enough to keep me happy for now.
Hey Hood Stop organising things! you still need to come up here and chase some goats or one of those spotted things one of these days

hey mate, ive got an Internature Takedown Hunter i got from Archery Academy in Adelaide. It cost about $365 from memory. You can choose limbs from about 35-60 lbs on it. It goes well in the field but needs limbsavers and catwiskers to stay silent. Spits arrows out at a good pace on 50lbs.
A Good Buy.
