When I was an itty bitty boy my old man and me hunted a lot...he was the county fella for vermin control...anyway I'll always remember we were snug down in a ditch between two fields of sugar beet, me with the .22 and him with his single barrel full choke 12g when he gets two small blades of grass and kinda stretches them tight between his thumbs and cups his hands and blows through the grass blades...he gets this high squeak that sounds just like a rabbit when it's been got by a weasel or something...he does this for a bit then I see about 30 yards off a young fox is peeping up with ears all pricked and like reeaaly interested...next thing my ears ring to the shing-bang....a great lesson that...

We use to make grass whistles as well, never thought about using them to call up predators, will give it a go next time I'm out after a dog...Glenn...

the tighter the grass the higher the pitch...it's all in the thumb action.. but I wouldn't want to try it with some of the razor sharp guinea grass in my back yard...
