View Full Version : Why is everyone going Trad
Was the reason that a lot of people are going traditional now that they just do not get the kick out of archery shooting all the bells and whistles as they did when they started??? I know i love shooting a bow but i just do not get a kick out of it anymore until the other day when i shot my mates recurve......well i broke 2 arrows missed my then i hit but had a ball. I was just wondering if that was why guys like yourself adam, coach, rinaldo were feeling and made the change. Now just to sneak one past the "leader of the opposition" It will be a long time before i hunt with 1 but that is the aim. So my question is what is a reasonable price for a recurve these days i want about 60# and does anyone have or know of one for sale or un wanted
Jason I dont' know about the others but for me I have found that it is a bit more rewarding in a lot of ways compared to the wheelie bows especially when you hit the spot you are shooting for. I do still like the wheelie bow but also love the trad game. Its the thrill, the excitement, the anticipation of the unknown I guess.
What ever it is it is addictive :D
Mate I am fairly new to the trad scene but have been playing a little bit for some months with a long bow I got about a year ago.I didnt get realy seriouse until latley as I have started shooting a recurve instead of thr longbow I have been using.I find the recurve much easier to shoot and am having trouble putting the bow down.I got a top of the range Samick in and it was beautiful and shot well but I also got a cheaper one and although not as special to look at with a flemish string on it it also shot very very niceley. These bows (Talon) are $200 so I believe are very good value for a brand new bow. They have brass bushings so you can put a rest on and a stab or fishing rig. With a adjustable rest you can shoot a brorder range and makes them easier to tune.
Just a bit of feedback from a trad newbie.
Cheers KIM
Rin will never go Trad ,,
i thought that is why he is getting rid of the bowthech 's.
When i shot my last chital stag it just did not give me that feeling i used to get. I shot him in the white spot i was holding my pin on and it just lost a bit of the fun. not that i do not want to do that with the traditional gear just think it will be more rewarding and a hell of a lot harder.
For me Jason there was just no frill in going up to the range with the compound, 5 to 50 meters just lost its challenge. Each to there own obviously, if you like it do it. Bowhunting to me has never been about just bagging game but more about the journey to the game. I have found over the years that hunting with traditional equipment the journey felt greater and the accomplishments felt more deserved. I started bowhunting in the first place for the challenge and gave my guns up from that day.
Just carrying a piece of bent timber through the bush is exciting to say the least.
I've been influenced by some good mates that only hunt with traditional gear aswell, so I partially blame them. Just watching Dave Whiting hunt with a trad bow makes you want to follow in his foot steps.
I'm loving it, give it a try.
Adam
p.s Jason I've got a 2 piece reflex deflex longbow I'm thinking about selling for $330 paid $450 not so long back. Send pm if your
interested.

what adam said pretty much sums it up for me too. i still really enjoy hunting with my crossbow, but i'll now be most likely taking off with the curve into the woods.
although ive only ever taken 'small game', to do that with a simple wooden bow would be more of a thrill than taking a trophy class stag with a rifle in my opinion. 8)
There has always been people going to/back to trad gearprobaly cause . you have more fun, it is a bigger challenge, and in some ways is more practical to hunt with.
It just seems like there has been a big surge lately as the alot of the well known bowhunters and also the main 'posters' of this forum have started shooting trad gear, and so we hear more about it:wink:

That be true everyone has a different budget in mind when peruchasing bows.
I for one am now trying to save for a nice Huntsman or BlackWidow. Got a while to go yet :(
As those who have talked to me about this before know, I love them all...I've said many times, if I had three feet I'd have one in each camp...
I love flingin' 'em from trad bows...shooting my barebow compound mmmmm...and the precision and perfection of my space age hi tech compound....different mood, different terrain, different game = different bow...depends on what I feel like taking when I reach for a bow...
Luke :D
not everyone is going trad, im sticking with my compound cause i love it 8) :D
