Has anyone used both sizes of carbons, (epic's and goldtips sizes) arrows on game or target? If so, did you notice any difference in the amount of penetration you obtained?
Be interested in your opinions!! howie

Howie, I have used both large and small diameter carbons being CarbonTech Rhinos and the CT240 shafts. I have noticed a huge difference in performance when using 3 blade b'heads, the thinner shafts punch through my backyard butt to within about 3" of the vanes, the thicker Rhinos get about half shaft penetration (both shafts being 29" and around 500 grains in weight). I put this down to the large cut of the b'head followed by the lesser drag of the narrower shaft. This performance is also noticeable with field points but to a lesser degree. Once my 8 remaining Rhinos bite the dust I will be going back to the smaller diameter shafts;). The performance on game is brilliant:cool:.

Sorry Hutcho, Carbon Tech 240. They are no longer available. They are a little smaller than Bemans and Easton Axis. Fortunately I have about 30 left so i'm:D.
Cheers. Fuzzie

Thanks guys. I was wondering what thinner shafts you have tried and which ones you would suggest???
Have ordered a new bow and was thinking about trialling the slimer shafts.

Ive used easton epics and recently changed over to ST Axis shafts and ive found that pentration is a fair bit deeper with the axis there a strong shaft that flys well im rapped in them.

ST Axis great shaft very strong. Will be sticking with them. One other good thing is they come with glue and inserts this helps keep total cost down.

well today i got bored so i made a brant new broadhead target for some penetration testing
Arrows
1) goldtip 75/95 8.9gpi

2) carbon express rebel hunters 60/75 11.2 (built in weight forward)

the heads were outback supremes

and the goldtip arrows out-penetrated everytime from 2-6 inchs

I have used the goldtips for several years and never had a drama with them. But have notice the thinner carbons of late. Very interesting to find out your opinions, keep em coming. Howie

Can anyone compare thinner carbon shafts with those that taper?
