it takes many people years to get there first deer etc. just keep at it. if you are getting good groups out to 20 and 30 yards you should be right
If it was easy everyone would be doing it!
It will happen don't panic

That is why it is called hunting and not shooting. Paitence grasshopper it will happen.
It took me 6 years to get my first Whitetail...

Don't ever go hunt chital then mate :P
Not only are they the hardest animal in Oz to get near, but just when you see your arrow sailing perfectly toward their vitals, they MATRIX out of the way and wave at it as it goes by!:(
But, having said that, I'd hunt them everyday of the year if I could... over anything else... they are the ultimate challenge in my opinion.
Stick with it mate. As I said to one of the boys up there on our chital hunt... the satisfaction you get out of your success is directly preportional to the effort you put in...
In other words, the harder you work for it mate, the sweeter it is!
Bowhunters wouldn't have it any other way :D
;)
To me Bowhunting is not about what I shoot, Its just about being in the bush and observing game animals, and the stalk. I am often satisfied of a hunt if i put in a good stalk. Even if i missed the shot, or do not get an oppertunity.
Another part that i really enjoy is putting into practice things i have learnt from previous stalks. I think rabbits are terrific bowhunting, they sharpen the skills you need on larger game. Being small, you need a nice tight shot to connect properly so they are perfect practice.
Don't underestimate rabbits, by thinking they aren't important to stalk like anything else.
If you can stalk up on a rabbit in daylight, you can get within range of a lot of our best bowhunting species. Also, you know how small they are as a target. It really makes you work.
Keep at it. I have a mate who stalked in on a rabbit when he was younger, to within 1 metre. He then shot it with an air rifle. The thing is, IT TOOK HIM ALL AFTERNOON! It was sleeping in the sun. When it moved, he froze, when it slept, he moved. Eventually it got used to him being there.
Take your time.
I had to belly-crawl through the sand and prickles for 50 metres to get behind a low wall before i took my first rabbit, but i still have the photo. I have taken others first, but it's true: you always remember your first (rabbit, i mean first rabbit :)) It was worth the crawl.
As far as i am concerned, once you have got a rabbit, you know you can drop pigs, goats etc.

17!!!!!
oh man i wish i was there but we will hopefully getting a rabbit property or pig property that aparently has 100's
so its promesing.
The first one is sometimes the hardest one to get. Once you roll the first one, the rest is easy. I have shot hundreds over the years - that was when they were thick on the ground and nothing to see several hundred a day. They are cool to hunt and even cooler to shoot. Stay with it Howie

mate ive done quite a bot of shotgunning and have 4 bowhunted goats to my name along with a hare... and i have been rabbit hunting to the point where im sick of it... still havent shot one!!!!... it might take a while... i personally reckon that appart from chital, rabbits, being so small and lightning fast, are up there with some of the hardest animals to hunt in oz... if you get onto that pig property, chances are youll hit one of them before you hit a rabbit... i did...

Puk, You had to crawl to get your first one!

Danny- bit boring, but if you can find a well used warren and set yourself up downwind from it behind a brush blind, they will come out and offer you a shot sooner or later. The blind doesn't have to be elaborate, but make sure that the wily critters can't see your silhouette by placing brush behind as well as in front of you. Take a comfy stool to sit on and wait.
