Humphreys 1st Sambar Stag

I decided to take out a member of the bow hunters group of Australia to see if I could help him get one of those elusive Sambar deer, but when Humphrey had trouble getting to my house I thought I better not leave him alone in the bush so I slightly altered my game plan for this hunt.
As It had been a bit frosty overnight I thought the deer would be on the eastern facing gullies trying to get some of the suns morning rays.
I had Humphrey work the top two thirds while I contoured about 30-40m below hoping we might find some deer, as we came to the first saddle I started tracking some fresh sign for about 60 meters and when I found fresh dropping I signalled Humphery to take a look I knew they were here but as its so thick there a bit hard to see. I told Humphrey to keep contouring along through the next gully as we had just done with him up higher than myself.
I was about 30m in-front and lower than Humphrey when I heard the loudest bow IÃ*ve ever heard fire then the crashing sound of a deer running followed by Humphrey calling out ìPAULî if the deer werenÃ*t bolting they were now.
I made my way to Humphrey and asked if you hit it, where you hit it and if you could see any fletching. He said he thought it was a poor hit too high I asked where the stag was when hit ìup there somewhere I think in the brackenî mmm the hard part begins.
After a few minutes I found the spoor roughly where Humphrey thought he was and as the ground was wet I wasnÃ*t as concerned as Humphrey about finding him.
We followed the spoor for about 40m when I found the first drops of blood and as they were bright red and frothy I knew Humphrey had his stag. We continued tracking the Stag as the blood trail was getting bigger and bigger for another 100-140m when his prints were virtually at 90 degrees so I stopped and started to look, I turned to Humphrey and congratulated him then pointed out his stag.
After recovering the meat I kept chuckling to myself on the way home about how he called out my name when he shot his first deer.
Well done Humphrey on your first deer and a Sambar stag, glad I was able to share the moment with you.
