went out tonight to one of my new paddocks for deer,
saw about 25 fallow and 8 reds, 4 of the reds were stags 1 of them being a nice 5x5. unfortunately i couldn't get a stalk in because they were laid up
in the middle of an open paddock,
but i did see something in never seen or herd of before.

as the mob of fallow came walking out of the scrub into the paddock 1 of the reds spikers got up and chased them around barking and biting at them, this went on for about 30 min's until the fallow eventually retreated back into the scrub

was wondering if any has ever witnessed or herd of anything similar

I saw a red hind approach 3 small fallow bucks earleir on this year, the fallow looked very nervous and didnt want to go too near the hind (who looked lost and was looking for company) but she certainly didnt got trying to bite chunks out of them.

I often see them together and I have never noticed any odd behaviour from either species (toward each other that is).
These guys sure noticed some odd behaviour from us :)

that's a spin out pic Jindy.

saw a mob of 35 (couldn't believe it) WA red deer on weekend (all hinds and young) and that's a big mob with no antlers involved.

place i hunt has a few goats and local kid tells me he's seen a mob of the same goats a few times now that have two young red deer with them. dunno if the 2 reds think they're goats or not?

interesting deer dynamics.
