View Full Version : New Zealand
I'm heading to New Zealand (North Island)in early September with the family and should be able to have 2 or three days for myself.
I have heard you can hunt public land, does anyone know the ins and out, will it be worth taking my gear for a hunt?
Thanks for any info you can provide.

As soon as you get to where you are staying go to the DOC office and buy your permit (about $40). They will have info on all the areas open to hunting.
Yes it is worth taking your gear.
Where abouts are you going to be staying?
Thanks Jindy,
We are hiring a campervan for 10 days with no real set plans, the boys want to play in the snow for a couple of days which gives me a chance to do my own thing, probably looking around the tongariro area.

Plenty of spots around there for a quick hunt, about an hours drive to Clements road which is good for a few deer. I know a closer spot too, but I was taken there by Matt so you would have to talk to him about it.
Closer there is the forest around the prison, it's name escapes me just now (bloody Kiwi names, need a degree to understand half of them LOL)
Take some warm cloths :)
I will put some stuff together for you this week sometime and email them to you
