Jesse, the obvious question is to ask whether your Outbacks are all weighted exactly the same and spinning true. There shouldn't be any reason why Blazers won't work with Outbacks and your set-up.

Hi Woodstoka,

I have been trying 3 and 4 inch vanes and can't really pick a difference. If you are using a biscuit will will need a stiff vane something like the x vane. They work for.

Just get a dozen of each to test them in your set-up.

Cheers Tim

hi mate,
what poundage and shafts are you using? i usually shoot 65-70 pounds with outbacks and 3 x 2inch vanes and have great groupings out to 40-45m on carbontech 65/80, easton axis 340 and even carbon rebel 45/60 (i think the later worked well because of their weight).
i fletch my own arrows with a fair bit of helical.

I was using Blazers with 160 grains 3 blade snuffers, it is probaly one of the largest and widest broadheads in the market and got good arrow flight. Change one thing at a time and see what happens, also agree with Norm, changing the weight of your heads can effect you accuracy. I think AdamK purchased some woodies and they were different weights and he was having trouble with accuracy.
Perhaps re tune your bow, something might of changed. Hope this helps Howie

Ditto Howie.

Been using blazers and outback hunters for as long as I can remember... never had any accuracy probs

Gday well iv been shooting blazers whith outbacks and i always spin test my arrows and paper tune my bow every 2 months and i cant get the arrows to spin just right so i put some 4" x vanes and they fly like a dream and the bow seems more forgiving to shoot well thats my 2bob about vane sizes.....

Do your field tips shoot accurately with Blazers? Do your broadheads weigh the same (or close anyway) as your field tips? If not the grouping must be different.

Blazers work well because of the depth of the vane giving vane surface without the length.

When you use longer vanes, the vane surface is the same but instead of gaining surface area from depth it gains from length.

Aerodynamically a longer surface, with helical, will impart a greater spin than a shorter, deeper, surface as the vane interacts with the atmosphere for longer.

I thing Blazers would work well with any well tuned setup but I think the longer fletching, with helical, would be more forgiving of a slightly flawed setup.

A Trad setup would not be able to use short fletching because of some of the inherant weaknesses in the setup
