View Full Version : glue threads into carbon arrows
could someone guide me into the right direction on the best way to do this. thanks.
i take it that when you say threads you mean inserts - what i do is first make sure the end your glueing into is cut perfectly square, theni like to use something lightly abrasive to clean out the inside of that end. i then wipe it out with metho and then i mix up some arraldite or epoxy - they both work well for me.i then spread a thin smear around the sides of the insert (you dont need much)then put a dob into the shaft. then i simply push in the insert and stand the shaft insert-down to dry. dont forget to wipe excess glue of the shaft.
Good advice above.
Clean is the key.Don't forget to solvent wipe the insert to remove the forming oil redidue.
I scratch up the insert to with sandpaper to give the glue a better surface to bond to and I turn the insert when I install it .
Super glues do not last. The bond breaks on hard impacts so stick with an epoxy. We have the best results with 24 hour types. The 5 minute types are brittle and fail.
Fletching glues do not work and hot melts also fail miserably.
I use a product called Power Bond you donĂ*t need to sand inside of shafts just like always maker sure there clean first. Any of the good archery shops should have it.
See ya Pete.
