View Full Version : adder small game heads
I thought that i would try these out on rabbits instead of judos, They were great they were quieter and flew straighter and stopped the rabbits as quickly as judos, and they only cost $6 for 5 of them http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/amozza/DSC_0047.jpg
They dont work so well on Hares, I would shoot broadheads for them :D .
As Mozza sasy thought they stop the wabbits....

i used to use washers behind field points. they certainly stopped the rabbits, but i was sick of changing the sights when i switched to broadheads. also if i was out in the field and was fox whistling, or saw a fox id quickly have to change to an arrow with a broadhead, and as they flew differently, it resulted in not so perfect shot placement. i quickly learnt my lesson and now use broadheads for everything. if they get a bit blunt from hitting grass, dirt etc i just give them a quick swipe through the knife shaprener in my backpack.
ps. another good reason i use broadheads on rabbits is to stop me taking tempting 40mtr + shots and losing all my broadheads and arrows. :D
coach I use broadheads for all of my hunting except when im hunting rabbits, because i find that the broadheads go through the rabbits too quickly and have found that a lot of them make it back down their burrow whereas adders and judos tend to stay in the rabbits slowing them down before they can make it back to the burrow ( most of the time) :)

you've got a point there mozza, the broadheads do go straight through, unless you hit them on a downward angle, or when the bunny's on the side of a hill, and then it just pins them to the ground.
but ive also had judos/washers go straight through them usually half of the time.

I like the Judos because I can usually find my arrows in the grass.
My B/heads sometimes slide under the grass and I have a hell of a time finding them again where the Judos just stand up.
The Judos I have fly as true at 20mtrs as the Outback B/heads I use on big game and I don't shoot Wabbits further than this.
These types of heads for me save losing arrows and are better on rabbits then bheads. For a few reasons
I aslo dont use broadheads on rabbits. i was hitting them, and the arrow would go through straight into the thick lignum and i would rarely recover the arrow or the rabbit which would make it into the lignum aswell...i changed to judos and rarely lose arrows now..

I like the Judos the best for wabbits. I always carry one in my quiver for stump shooting anyways.

This Rabbit would have gotten back down his burrow if I had used a B/Head, probably would have lost the arrow as well.
The Judo snagged his fur letting me drag him out of the hole.
Head shots with a Judo leave the meat for eating.
Love Bunny stew yummmmmm :D

I finally remembered to take out the camera.
I have got to get into the habit of packing it with my other gear.
When using wood shafts I have found that a .357 case with 115grn (9mm cal) of melted lead inside does a great job. Tumbles in the grass and knocks 'em down, around 10-15mts found my 72# still passed thru, recently shot a hare front on, didn't just knock him, skewered him & went a further 15-20 mts. But generally the 3/8" dia. of the shell base just belts 'em into oblivion :)

Mozza,
forget paying $6 for 5, they are as easy as anything to make. all you need is a drill, tin snips and some pliers and of course some gal tin. I used to make them in year 10 metal work back in the day and they were every bit as good as those that you can buy and of course a lot cheaper!!

try shooting a 2 litre bottle full of water with those adder heads of yours.
