View Full Version : NSW GOATS(pic heavy)
Well we packed up the car on Thursday night and were on the road at 4AM after a sleep .
We arrived at the property at about 8AM and began to set up the camp starting with the tent.
There was 6 trad hunters being Trevor,Mick,Adrian,Damon,Adam and myself.
3 recurves and 3 longbows.
About half an hour later I heard the sound of goats on the hill about 300 metres away.I quickly grabbed my bow and had this guy on the ground about an hour later.

I went back to camp to get my gear and my hunting partner Trev.
Heres a pic of Trev with his one piece border stalking in on a small billy. They were spooked and took off shortly after.

day 2 saw me going it alone cause Trev had hurt his shoulder a bit from a fall.
I was on a hill when I found a largish fox den so I was giving it a go with the whistle when I heard a call from behind me.
It was Mick and Adam .
Mick wanted to go back to camp and so I took Adam to try and get his 1st goat.I told him by the end of the day he'd have one and the reply was "beauty"
We walked a good 10k's I reckon for the whole day and by about 3Pm I was starting to think it wasn't going to happen when I saw a lone billy on the side of a hill about 80 metres up from us.
We both made our way up to about 15 metres and I got him to take a shot at it.
His string hit his sleeve on release and took some power out of the shot but the arrow skipped off a log and hit it right where you'd want it to.
Unfortunately it only penetrated about 4 inches but the goat let out a roar.We kept still while it tried to locate the danger and after about 15 minutes it walked off out of sight over the brow of the hill it was at.
Adam picked up his arrow which was coated in bubbly and I knew it was a single lunger.
We chased the goat for a good k maybe more but every time I got to where I last saw it it was a bit further ahead than before.Eventually I had to stop cause it was all uphill .I really was determined to not let it get away but once they know your after them its so hard to catch them.
Then about half an hour later we spotted goats on either side of the creek.
Adam went one side I went the other .
I made my way past him standing in the shade of a tree on the other side so as not to be detected by the goats.
They didn't see me and then I was where I last saw some on my side.
A dry creek bed with big clumps of tussock grass was between the goats and me and I crawled placing the bow in front as I went.
Up the opposite bank and I drew back but one of them detected movement .
They milled around at the edge of the creek bed and a good broadside shot at 25 metres appeared.
I let it go and the arrow went through one and into another ,the goats were both expired in a very short time and both pretty much at the same time coming to rest about 3 metres apart.

2 goats with 1 shot.

Then Adam called me on the 2 way,I could hear a kid bleating and we wanted one for the pot.
Here he is coming back down the hill with his 1st goat ever ,and even though its a kid its still hard to get.
