I just sold the compound rig and thought I would try Trad. The first time I ever hunted I used a friend's stick and loved it. After time I thought I would try the compound scene and got myself some serious rigs. One problem - if I missed anything then I would be really dissapointed because I knew that the gear should have hit the target (I.e. poor shot by me).

Long story short, now that I have my new Trad bow I'm loving hunting more and more and I'm more eager than ever to hunt hard when I get the chance to get out.

My new bow is a cheap Samick Talon 50# curve. Funny thing is, I have shot really expensive curves and I seem to group better with the cheap Samick! What the? I was just about to shell out up to 1000 bucks to get myself a really nice custom curve but I can't justify it when I shoot better with the Samick.

Does anyone else find that they shoot better with cheaper bows? Craaazy!

I think if your arrows are well tuned to the bow then you should be able to group equally well from any bow. Having a top notch bow is about reliability, performance and looks, it is no guarantee for accuracy as bows do not point arrows :) Archers do that, and arrows only go straight if they are well matched for the bow.

Your arrows are the terminal tackle and by far the most important part of your equipment. Your arrows must be well matched in spine and weight and balance. It's amazing how many people fork out heaps of dallars on a bow and will take the the worst set of mismatched arrows out hunting. As the indian who use to hunt with Saxton Pope and Art Young said "any stick will do for a bow, but arrows are important"...Glenn...

Yeah my arrows are tuned well. I shoot the Goldtip traditional 7595 shafts with 5 inch feathers and Tusker Aztec heads. They fly like a dart as long as the broadheads are spun up.

RazorX I'm even cheaper then you mate:P
I've got a Samick Mind-30 and it's a great first bow if your just wanting to try it out and not spend a fortune.
All I found I needed to do was put some moleskin fuzzy stuff ont he limb tips where the string contacts to reduce noise and a flemish twist stringg and soem string silencers and it'a nice shooting bow for what it is....CHEAP:P
Shoots well even if it's not as sexy looking as some others out there.
It will retire to a life of being a back up bow and carp culler when I get another though.

I'm cheap to as I shoot the same bow as Hood does an there is absolutely nothing wrong with it I shoot well with that as well as the longbow but the flash wheelie bow sits in the box in the corner and doesn't get used cause I feel more comfortable shooting trad. Will get a better recurve when I flog the wheelie off.

You fella's arent cheap just discounted , I saved the piece of wood I made my favourite bow from a fire wood pile , some of my arrows are made from pallets and have been repaired [ refooted ] with more bits of broken pallet , and some are made from silver quandong that cost me the equilivant of 50 cents a shaft and I have a quiver made from a scrap greenhide picked up at the tip and have not bought a new arrow head in 5 years , just keep recycling or raid bins and pick out everyone elses through outs .

Modern manufacturing techniques enable a high quality product to be produced cheaply . If you spent a few hours cleaning up the rough edges and reshaping the riser , checking tiller and gave it a real shiny refinish in 2 pack epoxy on that el cheapo samick it would be hard to pick it from a $1000 plus custom . regards Perry
