Is it just me, or does it seem like greenslip providers in NSW are engaging in price collusion practices and general 'ripping off' of the consumer? I have obtained a quotation online for my greenslip, and all of them were within $4.00 of each other (that's from approx 8 providers!!!) :o My greenslip is going to cost be over $700, and add to that the $373 for registration, and I'm up for well over $1000 just to keep my car on the road yearly.

Do interstate members pay these premiums? Whatever happened to competitiveness within the marketplace? Compulsory shouldn't mean absolute daylight robbery should it?

I get the S**TS every year with this whole scam  Sometimes I want to protest and just pull my car off the road, but then I remember NEED it rather than WANT it, so I sort of have no choice.

Young yes (22) but sweet car, no. I drive a diesel 2002 hilux so I would hardly call it high risk.

Greenslip in NSW is a compulsory insurance you have to take out with your registration. It basically covers injury of other drivers when you are at fault. It is compulsory, and unfortunately there is only a small pool of insurers who are allowed to provide the cover, and yes you guessed it, all their prices are exactly the same .

I have never heard of anyone paying under $600 p.a for insurance/registration combined. Bare in mind that this IS NOT damage insurance for other vehicles, that is a seperate cost all together :).

ADO our rego here in SA has a componant which the compulsory Third Party Incsurance.
A break down of the $505 charges of a rego on my 2000 VT commodore is

$93.00 Rego Charge
$6.00 Admin Fee
$24.00 Emergency services levy
$350.71 Compulsory Third Party Insurance
$31.29 GST

So there you have it.;)

i drive a 2000 diesel hilux and i think my rego is about $400 for the year and about $270 for 6 months. none of this greenslip stuff. its all for rego and CTP insurance but as usual further insurance from a third party insurer (eg RACQ, AAMI) is more (about $600 a year).

move to queensland mate, its a whole lot easier up here!

Green slip and compulsory third party insurance are the same thing. At twenty two, you fall into the highest risk category for injuring or killing somebody in a car accident.Male between eighteen and twenty five. If you drive that Hilux in Sydney, that puts you right up there too, as four wheel drives are deemed to be very high risk of killing or injuring people in city accidents. Unfortunately you live in the most expensive state in Oz. High rent, high real estate prices, R licences, game council, high fuel costs and massive insurance premiums. I came back to "God's own" two years ago after a couple of years stint in Sydney. I actually had a bloke pull a handgun out of his glove box on me in a road rage incident. To add insult to injury it happened in the suburb where I was born. And he certainly wasn't born anywhere near there. I will gladly see out the rest of my days in FNQ. Best climate, great fishing, people are still human. We can even still wash our cars up here.

Huddo,
green slips and third party insurance are different...
green slips cover personal damage, eg, (if you bowl someone over on a pedestrian crossing)
Where third party covers property damage, (in case you run up the ar*e of a brand new BMW)...

Third party insurance pertains to the third party. That being injury or death to people.. third party property insurance covers the damage caused by you to another vehicle or property. Green slips are about third party insurance. All states and territories in Oz require vehicles to have third party cover before being able to be registered. This covers compensation claims made against careless knobs like the one that took my left leg off by running into me on my motorcycle.

CTP - Compulsory third party (accident injury cover for third party i.e. not you)

Third Party - Non compulsory (accident damage cover for third part i.e. not you)

I may need to move out of Sydney ;)
