View Full Version : Recurve
I was given this bow to try to make some thing out of by a bowyer that was not willing to waste any time on it as it came off the form WAY to heavey and may never be shootable.Anyway I thought it would be good practice and have started on the riser this weekend. It was a solid block when I started and there is a long way to go but it is shaping up good I rekon.I have done it all with hand tools and no power tools are going to be used on this one as a bit of a test.I will keep updates going on this to see if it turns out into some thing that can be used.I will put string grooves in next w/end and see if I can bend the limbs.HE HE.
Cheers KIM

The recurve looks as though it is coming along well Kim, riser should look striking when it is sanded and finished...Glenn...

i think thats a very wierd looking bow, the colour i mean.
Good luck mate,
It looks a ripper.
It will be all the more satisfying seeing you finished it off yourself.

Nice grain and laminates. That would be beautiful with a lil work.

Looking good mate.
If it has too much poundage for you when finished Kim, let me know.
I am looking for a higher poundage recurve.
Ok after a bit more work on the limbs I have it down to 83 pound and am getting close to having the riser shaped the way I want it.I dont think I will shoot it for a while but it will be a good work out bow to build up the muscles.

83# what happened, did you sand the limbs down too much and miss weight, try not to hold on at full draw too long Kim, would hate to have to come up and repair the VJ wall because you head went through it...Glenn...
You crack me up Glenn I laughed for 5 mins before I could reply. This is ALL YOUR FAULT I know you thought it could not be done but I WILL shoot it even if kills me but I see your twisted joke now that you have played on me.
I also have a couple of the footed arrow shafts finished that you told Maggie that she had to have so thanks for that also.I will be back to your place soon to get even.
Cheers KIM
Full credit to you Kim, you have got it drawn, you're right I didn't think it could be done especially when I thought I might loose a leg just getting the string on. Is Maggie getting spliced feathers on her footed shafts? just wondering, might have to mention that to her as well and maybe some selfnocks would be nice...Glenn...
Kim just read a thumper of an article on the late PAUL SCHAFER and they recone his lightest pound bow he used was about 80lb. His usual hunting one being around the 92lb mark.
No wonder he could flat line an arrow out to 80 yards.
Simply a Legend.
