I've kept snakes (Herps) for nearly 25years.
At the moment I keeping Womas, Blackhead Pythons and Jungle Pythons.
I used to have a large collection of Elapids (venomous) Tigers, Blacks, Browns, Copperheads but it all became to much especially with small children in the house.
Good luck with your first herp

I need to put some more pics on Photobucket and then i will post some more for you.
You need to think about what sort of snake you are after. Do you want something that is going to stay Smallish - around the 1 - 1.5 m size or a snake that is going to get bigger?
If you go for the 1 -1.5 m max size you have 3 choices - Childrens Python, Spotted Python or Stimsons Python. Out of these i would recommend a Stimsons as they are probably the most attractiuve and also very hardy.
If you are after something that will grow bigger then i would recommend either a Murray/Darling Carpet Python or a Centralian Carpet Python. These are generally regarded as the best beginners snakes due to there ease of maintanence, good feeding response and also great nature. Both grow to approx 8 -10 ft though bigger specimens exist. Unfotunately there really isnt anything suitable in a middle size range. Jungle Carpets and Womas fit into this range but i would not recommend them as a first snake.
Feel free to Pm me if you have any Questions.
