View Full Version : Hunting in Vietnam?
The dearest darling wife has been planning a trip to Vietnam for early next year and it got me thinking about the possibilty of hunting in Vietnam. I have had a bit of a google search without much success, but there is one site that has a few articles from American hunters that have started to open up the area to hunting. Has anyone else heard anything about the region or possibly been there to relay some experience or leads I could use to follow-up on? I know they have water buff and apparently there are several types of deer [3 of which are apparently unidentified], could be a great adventure and I am keen to hear your thoughts.
Cheers Troy
my mate went and shot a m16 a rocket propelled granade launcher and a heap of other weaponary and threw granades all for about 100 bucks, not really hunting but a good experience. and for a bit more they will let you shoot a cow with the rocket...he did not take up the offer and apparently gun safety is un heard of as well.. can get you the details if interested

Yay give me the details i want to shoot a cow with a rocket!!:):):):):):)
Yeah would certainly be crazy to shoot some of the military ammunications remaining from the conflict, plenty of Ak-47's and the most touristy places apparently only charge around $1 US a round will probably have a day 'playing around' with some military gear, but not too keen on obliterating cattle.

I've heard of a couple of American outfitters trying to open SE Asia. One in particular in Dennis Kamstra. His website is www.bowhuntingsafari.com.
I've had email dialogue with him about a number of areas, including SE Asia. If my memory serves, he is/was looking into bowhunting in Vietnam and Thailand.
Drop him a line. If he's not doing it, I'd be surprised if he doesn't know someone who is guiding in the area.
Jake
P.S. Note - I imagine it will be a reasonably pricey exercise, as the prime market will be wealthy American hunters.
Cheers Jake I will try him.
For those who may be interested, there is only 1 outfitter with access to Vietnam, Harv Hollek and you can bow hunt Buff, Muntjac, Sambar and Mousedeer. Downside is it will set you back $10K USD for a 12 day hunt. Think I might look at Africa for that price.
10K USD!! That guys dreamin'. I'm only speculating here - I wouldn't know for sure - but If you were serious I would try the local resource. I reckon around say $200 (?) would get you a translator for 2 or three days and another couple of hundred to a local who could guide you to where some game was and you got yourself a 2-3 day Vietnam hunt for $400 bucks. (Oh, plus another $500 a day to the missus who is probably furious that you turned a romantic Vietnam getaway into a huntin' trip! ;) )
Bout right I reckon Jato, she blew-up when I first raised the idea. LOL. Talked her around though.
Had the same thoughts re; employing a guide and so forth to get access as apparently there are some huge water buff available, some of the guys that have hunted there have taken record book buff, Boone and Crocket that is. The mate has been to Indo twice and he won't even book additional trips to other countries untill he is in Vietnam as it is only about $40 AUS to get from there to Cambodia, costs a lot more to pre-book from here.
Am going to try the Vietnamese Govt and find out what permits I might need, will keep you posted.

Take a few big packets of smarties with you mate, especially if you are going to Cambodia
Looks like I will pull the pin on this trip and let the wife go with her mum, that way I can save the dough for a hunt in africa.
