I have started a new thread so not to hyjack another thread that has some pricing issues going on.In the past when people ask me about buying bows and accesories I have sent them to this site and sujjested that you will not get ripped off on this site as it is run by bowhunters for bowhunters and you will be taken care of.With this in mind I can see no probs and if fact encorouge members to point out if something is an unreasonable price.I am not aiming this at any post in particlular just that it has come up.I understand that buyer beware but if a new member logs on and sees a member thats been long term has some thing for sale he will be likley to feel that it is a fair deal and may not do a lot of research on the pricing. After all this is not ebay it is a special interest forum that we all say is here to help newcomers into the sport. How does it look if we let the forum become everone man for himself and stuff the next guy.Mabey my views are a bit old fashioned but the more commersial a site gets the less likley I am to contribute.
Cheers KIM

To be clear, the incident that prompted you to comment, the thread containing the "pricing issues" you are talking about is this one
http://www.aussiebowhunter.com/showthread.php?t=8383

Do you believe that Snowy1 is ripping someone off by just offering an item for sale?
Do you believe that it is reasonable to spam other members for sale threads with links to other sales?

How would you react if every time you put an item up for sale here someone posted a link to an Ebay search of similar items?

Snowy1 put an item up for sale at a price that is over what another members shop sells it for, fair enough that someone should point that out, but to then start spamming the thread with links to sales in the US that are not even available to Aussie buyers is plainly rank and certainly not in the spirit of "bowhunters for bowhunters" that you hold so dear.

Where do you draw the line on this sort of behaviour?

I thought we are here to help each other out if you can help some one save a dollar why not help, I would like to think that some one would let me know if there was a cheaper option avaliable.

I'm sure you can get the product shipped to Australia but the company the link was posted for said that they don't ship out side of the USA...Glenn...

Why do we need to scrutinise someone over the price of what someone is selling their product for. If someone buys it, then good for him or her, factors involved are unknown.
With what the internet is this day and age, there will always be someone ripping someone else off................. In somebody’s eyes.

and remember it also costs postage to get things from america so that could be included in the price

Buyer beware? YES.

Spamming a for sale post? NO. (well there is spamming then there is SPAMMING)

If you have an issue with the price why not send a PM along the lines of.

"I can get that for $XXXX from company XYZ, I'd like to support you instead of going else where can we haggle a bit"

See easy done.:D

As with everything, items are only worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay. So if it's more then you want to pay either shop elsewhere until you find it for the price you want to pay. OR haggle, haggle and then haggle some more if need be. Especialy when it comes to second hand gear.

When I bought a new car a few years ago they wanted 29K for it new, I then got them to come down to 25.5k. So how much of a profit where they adding to the car if they were able to come down 3.5k on what they were originaly asking for it.

Same goes for........oh lets say a backpack;)
It was bought by the seller for $X amount and then they add $X amount to it for some profit (after all thats why he's selling it isn't it:rolleyes:) but I'm sure that they would be willing to negotiate a little to make sure they got the sale just like a car yard will to keep you from spending your money else where.

Well I think thats enough BS from me for now.

In conclusion
If your not happy with the price shop else where or negotiate. BUT do not SPAM the post.

Now I will prob get missunderstood because I dont write well but.
First of all it was the thread that promted my thread not the incident I did not go to any of the links posted as I am not looking at buying a backpack it is some thing I have had playing on my mind for some time and this just prompted me to type some thing.Jindy you seem to feel very strongly about this and thats fine but with your comment about links to ebay I am not sure I got myself across clearley because if someone decided to shop on ebay(as I have done in the past)than buyer beware but I DO feel strongly that if a new comer comes on here he should be given impartial and unbiased info on whats available. So if you want to put up a ebay add when I next sell some thing than go ahead as I think my pricing has always been competative with ebay.I dont agree with people putting up links to suppliers just because they are mates with them or any other shops advertising unless they are sponsers.I also from time to time find it unrealistic the prices people put on 2nd hand gear and have stated this in the past but that is differant to importing gear for the purpose of sale then that is to make money not to help people and that is fine as long as it is made clear it is a business and not just some one trying to get rid of some unwanted gear.If you are importing gear just to sell then you should be offering warranty and the like which is differant to selling some thing 2nd hand.Again let me make it perfectly clear I am not commenting on Snow1's sale just the right for some one to say it is not a resonable price.
A pm is prob a better way to do this I guess though.

Snowy1 put an item up for sale at a price that is over what another members shop sells it for.

Jindy
What shop do I work for?
If some one is importing goods and trying make money on them, all power to them.
But trying to sell something for about 20% over what you paid, on a site like this is ripping people off.

$90 for the pack + $20 post = $110us = $133.64Au
$170 for the pack + $10 post =$180Au

180-133.64= 46.36

That a big saving in my books.

I will quote my second post in the thread you have highlighted

“Not intended to hijack, just want to see reality but I will remove it and do it by PM if people think I am being offensive.Chris”

To Snowy1 I will remove my posts and stay out of you selling from now on.

To all else, with the way the assize dollar is going you can get some BIG saving from going sees. If you see something you like do your research and you may save some money (we can all do with more money in our bank)
You may just have to wait for a bit.

Chris

PS I do not have any links with the sites I posted

That backpack was probably made by some poor asian kid in a sweatshop for no more than $5AU, yet it is retailing for AU$133.64! To me that there is a rip-off, but then again I paid $220 for my camelback commander & I don't regret it one bit because it's an excellent pack and I was willing to spend that much.
The way I see it, the seller can ask whatever they want for their item and if someone is willing to pay that amount, good on em!

well i believe that this is a place that hunters, new and old, can chat, tell stories, get and give advice, make friendships and swap or buy goods from each other.
i would be glad if someone told me that i was being ripped(not that i am saying this about snowy1)and then to show me where to get a better price or product.that is what i think a public forum is for.
chris may have been a bit harsh whith his links but snowy1 seems to be selling alot of brand new gear (is he a retailer or sponser)

most of the things sold in our classies dont seem to be profit drivin, more like just guys wanting to clear out old gear (at nearly always a good price)usually to get some new gear for themselves or to help out others
and i think it should be kept that way
any way just my 2bob
cheers mic

I have suggested that several people correct their prices, but always via PM, most are grateful as they werent aware of specials, price reductions or they were ripped off in the first place, some arent so grateful and let me know it :) However everything is kept from the public eye. But I can see Kimall and Chris' point we need to keep those Ebay parasites away from the forums.
