Hey there guys.

I plan on making a target because I have some prime fox areas here and apparently a few farms to head off to for other such things.

I have collected a ton of plastic wrap for making targets but I need a hessian sack/bag to put it in.

I can find em on ebay but they sell by the doz and are in the UK so its outta the
question.

Where can I get them? I'm in Esperance so there isn't many places to look. Does
anyone know of a website that'll sell em in packs of about three?

Cheers guys for any help

I just stuff an empty beer carton (there's usually plenty around me) with plastic wrap. They usually last 100 shots or so, and i know there will always be another empty carton very, very soon. ;)

Hession bags seem to hard to procure, and beer is yummy so that helps ;)

Cheers, Cam

Get a wool pack, (what they pack sheep wool in for sale) they last months and months, once one side is shot to bits just start on the other side. cost @$15. I have had the same material for more than 10 years and just replace the pack, available from rural supplies.....Howie

The big striped bags that you get from the discount stores would work.

Cost about $4 for the big ones.

They come with handles and zippers which is a real bonus for transportation, and, when you shoot out the sides, you just put it inside another one.

Last Christmas, when on holidays, I took just the bag with me and filled it up with Pallet wrap at the local Super Market.

Even used it to carry the T/D recurve to save space in the car.

G'day All

When you say 'plastic wrap' and 'pallet wrap' what exactly is this stuff and where can i get it.

Took my brand new Internature recurve (50#@28) down to my home made range. Lined up on a bag of mulch (very tightly packed and about 40cm thick) and proceeded to put the first arrow straight through it (ok - to tell the truth, took me about 5 shots to hit it). Field points at a good 20 paces.

So - the bags of mulch are no good. Very interested in the above targets and whats in them.

Thanks,

Iain

What i did and recommend:

Go to Vinnies, lifeline, salvos etc. Walk up to the desk, smile, introduce yourself and ask what they do with clothes they can't sell or use for rags. Then explain why you want them. In my local town they pressed them hard in a wool pack and send them off to Brisbane. They often sell them for $20 each if people want them. After spending some time to chat with them, they ended up giving me mine for free. All i had to do was pick it up.
A ready made target, it has sat outside in the rain for 6 months and is showing no ill effects.

Jawry - plastic wrap and pallet wrap are basically gladwrap that supermarkets use to keep pallets together during transportation.

I work at a supermarket so I can get as much as I like.

A lot of supermarkets have to pay to get stuff like that removed so they usually are happy to let you take it from the loading dock for them, but some places get money for recycling so give it a go.

Ask a Woolies/Safeway I believe they just chuck it in the bin so you save them a lot of space by taking it (they also usually make bails out of them like they do with boxes)

Thanks for the input guys I'll look around for some bags, also try the local hardware etc.

Whats a wool pack? A bag made for putting wool in or something? what kind of joint sells them?

Hi Glen,

You can get wool packs from an wool handling outfit (someone who buys the wool from farmers) or a general rural supplier. The other place you could try would be anyone who owns horses ask them what they do with their chaf bags (they are generally like a plastic hessan and are a descent size). To save your target getting shot out in the one spot paint or draw a series of circles all around the front face.

I have attached a couple of images of my target butt. The shafts are 29" axis shot from 20mts out of my Martin at 70lbs. It has been outside for over 18 months and is packed with silage wrap from the local tip (they have a recycling point and had packed it into the bails which they were happy to give me) the bail in the photo would have easily taken a 1000 shots.

Cheers Tim

I used a cardboard pine sandwich. Held together with a tie down. Just watch the depth of penetration if you're shooting the same spot over and over.

I've been told to try an old/cheep bodyboard and cut into squares and stick/glue together, i should have my first bow by this W/E so ill tell you how it goes.

Also ive thought of filling up a carboard box with mattress foam (tightly) and layering it inside with cardboard and packing foam.

I did shoot at three mattress (two small ones more like futon cushions, one off an ensemble) with a boogie board tied to the front.
That pulled them up really nicely.

I've just moved to Esperance so I culled a lot in the move thats why I'm trying to set up with pallet wrap cause its free and easy, kinda like one of my ex's

I'll eventually buy one but I really wanna get a go at some foxes sometime in the next month so I need to sight her up.

Absolutely...and when the front one is getting shot out...put on another one... you can generally find em when they get discarded on coucil clean up days..or a trip to the local tip may be in order...if no other option go to Target or K-Mart and buy em...just don't get the ones with the hards plastic surface cover, they make arrow extraction almost impossible..............the benefit of this type of target is that it is CHEAP and great for both field tips and broad heads.....I find about 6-7 stacked together and affixed with masking tape is required to pull up my 70# X-F.....cheers ;);)
