G'day all,
I have been thinking seriously about changing from my bear instinct to a switchback XT,
Just wondering if anyone has had any good OR bad experiences with them or maybe a few things that i should be aware of before going any further?
Dont' ask XT-freak about them:o
his is always taking flying lessons:P:P;)
Seriously now.
I've only shot one for a few shots back when Norm gunston was over from Japan. He was nice enough to let me have a shot and I fell in love straight away (with the bow that is) ;)
Smooth to draw, nice and light to hold, no hand shock (that I could feel)
and spat the arrows down range at a rate of knots.
It's going to be my next wheely bow unless I get a Drenalin.
The other guys that own them and hav eshot them more then the couple of dozen shots I had might have a bit more to say about them.
I used to have an XT & it was an awsome bow apart from a few minor things:
-The factory string & cable are crap! You will find they tend to creep, peep rotation is common & the serving on the cable near the cam will seperate and wear through. This is easily fixed by replacing it with a quality aftermarket set from winners choice or bling.
-I'm not a fan of the mathews grip, it's a little too thick for my liking and makes the bow more succeptible to torquing. There are a vast variety of aftermarket grips available, or you can just sand down the factory grip to suit you.
-They don't take a dry-fire too well at maximum poundage. That's why I don't have mine any more:(.
You can read countless reviews on the XT and they all emphasize the positives & tell you how good this bow is (and I agree with them) but I thought I would point out the negatives I found with it. As you can see these are only minor things and I am picky.

No bow like to be dry fired at max poundage.
I Love my XT.
Grip is fine if you have bigger hands. I switched mine to a thinner torqueless.
I had no trouble with my strings though I did switch to blings so I have the originals as spares.
Sweet shooting bow.
Takes a heck of a beating...
Oh ya it flies well too...
If possible shoot as many different bows as you possibly can and then pick the one you are most comfotable with no matter the make and model...

The XT is nice well made bow that shoots accurately, there other similar bows out there for a similar price or cheaper, try the Bear Truth, the Bowtech Tribute and the PSE Firestorm X. I shoot a Diamond Black Ice and believe it is superior to the XT and costs several hundred dollars less.

Mate, have you shot an XT? If not, I suggest let the feel of the bow be the deciding factor for you. No design is perfect in any bow- the XT has no major drawbacks worth mentioning. Please spend time reading the tech section of the Mathews site to get a broad perspective of any issues that arise with the XT: http://forums.mathewsinc.com/ Good luck!

Really ? seriously Really ? :o Not a bow I would have picked to down the XT but ok...... REALLY ?? ( in Jest of course ;))
The XT is as fine a Bow as most any bowhunter would want, I have had 3 and still retain one of them ( only reason I had three is I was made silly offers and sold them and replaced them etc).
But if you thinking new I would either 1 buy the Drenalin for the extra $45.00 or 2 Wait till the new Mathews Bow is released in November, or 3 Try the ROSS Cardiac as well.
And of course the Diamond Black Ice too !........REALLY ?
