Well after reading several threads on this site since joining on ways to get properties to hunt on I thought id give the ole letter box drop a try.

I met 79mod out at Moranbah a few months back and being unable to get permission to take him hunting on the small block Keith and I hunt on now I decided to get my butt into gear and find a place we could hunt on together. Iv talked to heaps of people and had plenty of interest but it never seems to get past the talking part. Everyone knows someone who knows someone and they will get back to me ect ect...

So I made up a letter head with a small pic of myself with my first little bow shot pig and what I beleived to be relivant info to see if I could get someones attention. Bit flash adding the pic I thought but I wanted to stand out from the crowd so to speak.

Took a drive with the missus for the arvo and droped off 7 letters. Covered between 400 to 500ks round trip.

Two days later I got a call from one of the property owners.
Turns out he actually pig hunts with dogs but decided we could hunt his place with the bows. He hasnt let anyone else hunt there before.
The lack of guns n dogs was our ticket to getting permission.
Plenty of rabbits and dingos/dogs to hunt he tells me with only the odd pig wandering through.

He has been busy and we have been unable to get out to meet him. He rang me last night and organised a time in two weeks for a trip out for a look around and a hunt. While we were talking he asked me if we would be interested in hunting a few deer as he has a place further down the road with 70 or 80 deer running around on it. Gee Ill have to to think about that. Not.

So hopefully over the next few months Ill be able to post some pics of Keith and 79 stalking some deer and bunnies.

Hey All

Firstly I would like to thank Darren for all the work he has put in aquiring this property as he works some crazy shifts. Cheers Mate. Hopefully I can repay the favour one day.

Secondly I would like to thank this site. What a great place for like minded people to meet and share there stories.

All up Darren and I have posted nearly 20 letters (mine & his) to different properties in the area and we only got the one hit (from his letter not mine - must be the nice picture on it that lured them in). I am really looking forward to getting out for my first real Bowhunt with Darren and is son.

Cheers

Hey evil taco,
I just gave a general background on my hunting experience with dogs and guns from several years ago and said I had no longer owned either and would be using archery equipment. I asked for permission for 4 hunters, giving the names and ages. Josh is a wana b archer and is keen but he spends all his time workin so I dont know if or when he will get out with us on a hunt but i still put his name in.
I said we would be more then happy to travel out at a time that suited them to meet and show them the gear we intended to use and to discuss the possabillaty of hunting on there property rather then relying on a letter to gain an idear of who we were.
I said all reasonable care would be taken to ensure the safety of stock and property and all rules and conditions would be adhered to at all times.
Hope this helps you if you decide to try your luck with a letter drop.
