That top wapiti is a farm animal and was shot by someone who thinks that shooting big pets is sport :(

If you want to shoot a huge elk like the one in the second pic you would need a lot of time to scout out places where one might live, or you can pay money to a farmer and he will tell you which valley he lives in. You of course have to have the skills to shoot it, but unless you go to that ranch you can't know just how tame they are.

It looks like you can drive right up to them

:o:o Just like that huge pig that was shot by the 11yr old over in the states a few months ago.
Bet it cost them a bomb to shoot 'em. Each to their own. I have heard shooters harvesting animals in New Zealand, (behind high wire), then hiring a helicopter and flying the shooter and trophy to the tops just for a photo session. If that rattles your bucket, so be it......Howie

I dont know anything really about these ranch hunts or the animals shot in these pics but if they were pets or similar i personally think its pathetic. For one if that first pic were a pet why on earth would you ever shoot such a magnificant animal(obviously wild trophy is different)and two, doesnt that take away the satisfaction from the hunt?Doesnt the satisfaction and fond relived memories come from the hard yards put in to find track and take out a trophy?
I think the ranch hunts are a bit different,as the place i hunt, the deer are generally always on the property so im bound to find them if i put the footwork in but shooting tame pets?I would be ashamed of that pic if i were those guys.Just my two cents.......were they claimed to be wild shot or did these guys tell everyone they were farm animals?...Damo

My thoughts run along the same lines as Jindy.
The word "hunter" needs to be earnt through hours spent in the weeds, not on the cash in ones account.
To me, the above animals look plain ol ugly as with the people beside 'em.

How about, artificial mountains set-up in pens, then release the animal into the pen and shoot it!! When there is some form of financial incentive or in these guy's case bragging right's i.e. 'MY Elk is No1 in the SCi book' unfortunately it don't matter to them that you don't consider their
"trophy's" to be fairdinkum. Its all about dollars gents.
Hell, we have even heard of people claiming rifle shot game as bow kills, in our own backyard, so this shouldn't be a big surprise. There is a difference between shooting a trophy in a ranch that still has a fear of man as opposed to something that is fed from the hand though.
None of this floats my boat, or rattles my bucket. But it certainly happens, a lot.
