I just got back from bowhunting the Cape last week...had a blast. While the trophy volume wasn't huge (I shot 4 boar), we saw a good deal more animals than last year as the weather was more dry and less severe.
Also, we saw a lot of action and I was able to stalk on a ton of animals (pigs, horses and scrub bulls). Unfortunately the bloody wind wouldn't cooperate!
I would like to take this opportunity to express my respect for Blackfoot camo...brilliant stuff... This is the first year I've used it. I was able to get in so much closer to animals than in previous years, and the only variable was the camo used. I will still use ASAT in certain situations, but am now a definite "Blackfoot man". The same applies to my hunting partner, who has used it previously with great results. He was able to stalk within metres of pigs, where as previously he would have been much more challenged to do so.
As for other gear:
2004 Bowtech Extreme VFT
No-Peep - EXCELLENT
2219 Alloys
Outback Supremes - 140Grain
All performed exceptionally well. I am definitely keepin the no-peep for hunting applications. I was able to hunt a good 15 minutes beyond the hunters who were using peep-sights, which resulted in a 30 2/8 pt boar!
Most importantly, I realise how much I need to hunt to regain some of the humanity that my working life strips away. It was so good to not have emails, meetings, mobiles, office politics, etc.
