View Full Version : Who's been bitten
As there seems to be a few posts Re; snakes gaiters, snake proof boots, etc.
I thought the question needed to be asked.
Has anyone been bitten or been struck at by a snake whilst Hunting.
Don't be shy, Fess up.
Ive been bitten by non venomous snakes (trying to catch them).

Been striked at by a tiger snake, but other then that I have had a thousand encounters but no bites.
I think gaitors give peace of mind but I have never worn a pair as yet, maybe while hiking soem gorge country later this year I will purchase a pair as the death adders are pretty commen, Ill be miles from any where and deffinatly directly in there terrain.

seen quite a few out in the bush whilst hunting including one dirty big brown that i nearly trod on whilst hunting with Hoyt_trykon, but never struck at or bitten when bowhunting. when the drought first started to kick in there were quite a few snakes that came down from the local farm scrub and one surprised the crap out of me when it struck at me whilst trying to get a ball off the roof... it was curled up in the dead leaves in the gutter till i got there... turns out it was about a 3 foot long green tree python which by the way are about as dangerous as a thimble...lol

Stay still and they will bugger off real quick, snakes hate humans. I keep snakes, so believe me they don't want to know you!!! Just dont be a hero and try to hurt or catch one that is when you will get bitten.
Man! Been struck at a lot by tigers while working on the State Forest, thankfully none connected, I'm just to damn fast!!!;) Plus baggy legged trousers helps. :D. Riamukka State Forest! Full of tiger snakes!
Had a mate get hit with a King Brown down in the Hunter Valley at Arrowfield wines Vineyard when I was working there. You could see the puncher marks in his Red Wing boots, but didn't go right through and break the skin, Lucky man!

Whilst never been bitten myself I've seen a few lads tagged when I spent time in the Army. Not a good thing when it happens. Taipans when pissed sure do cover some ground. Most Ive seen in one day was 17 black snakes rolled up in the sun during winter.
Got hit by a brown while out fishing a creek. I jumped down an embankment and landed on it, it turned and pinned me on the end of my boot. Left marks in the boot. I have now recollection of how I got off the snake, the next thing I knew I was back up the embankment, I figure I just leapt up it backwards. :o
Scared the hell out of me. Hate snakes.

I got silly once, trying to relocate a red-belly black, and it whacked me a few times on the thumb; it really hurt.

dad and i headed out bush yesterday and we crossed a creek and walked up a pretty big hill to have a look at the dried up water race and as we got to the edge of the race we stood there talking for a bit and i looked down and saw a good size brown snake about one and a half metres away just lying there so i told dad and as soon as i turned the camera on it went up some rock's and into the grass, lucky i didnt run up and step down into to water race as i may have copped an unwelcome bite from the 3+ foot brown snake.
