howdy all.

just a quickie. went out to a favourite spot over the week end, inpromptu like, for a bit of therapy, you know what i mean?

anyway scored a nice billy and now want to keep the hide.
i am not sure of what to do so i put the skin in the freezer untill someone can help me out with some knowledge.

firstly have i done the right thing by freezing the hide? also have the horns and some hide for mounting in there as well.

does anyone here tan hides? if they do, how much would it cost? on average.

i live in the liverpool area and really want to have it done properly by someone who knows more about than me as i dont want to ruin it by experimentation.

guys please help, as this will make a nice wall mount.

cheers

mate not sure about proper tanning, but i think the tanning kits are roughly $50 (but don't quote me, im not sure) for rabbits i just salt them. stapel them up to a backboard or somthing on an angle and cover it in non iodised salt... which works pretty good...

Mate,
It will be fine in the freezer as long as it's not salted.(at least thats what I was told by a taxidermist)
To tan a skin is really easy, just buy a kit from a local gun shop and follow the directions.

Most taxidermists can get tanning done for you or as suggested have a go yourself and see how things turn out.

Use a Leder Tanning kit and mix EVERYTHING in together that it comes with (I.e. the Tanning solution and the leather lube + the 1kg of salt and 30 litres of water)

Cheers, Jase.
