hunt or be hunted

come next weekend hopefully dad, mum and i are ment to be heading up the mountains for two night's and then driving to yarrawonga on monday, we are going to woodspoint and then i think thompsons dam, and then yarrawonga. i am definatly taking the bow and i was wondering, what if i am lucky enough to get a fox on the first or second night and i take it's skin, do i put the skin in a plastic bag and then put it in an esky? and dry it out once i reach yarra? or will it get stuck together that way and be no good? i would dry it out at camp but im worried it will get torn and squashed in the car.
any ideas? thank's dan.
First thing to do if you get a fox and skin it, is let the skin cool down. Lay it over a log skin side up in the shade for a few minutes. Do not put it in a Plastic bag! This will cause it to sweat and will start to rot very quickly. Best thing is salt, your ordinary big pot of house hold salt, and dont skimp on it, the more the better. After salting roll it up skin to skin then place it in a hesian or cloth bag. An old pillow case works well. Better take a bucket or an old esky that dosen't get used for anything good. The salt will draw out all the juices and fat from the hide and if you leave it in the back of your old mans car just in the pillow case you will not be real popular.;) :D
Cheers Bud and good luck!

Good luck on your trip...

Mate pretty much what scott said, but I would remove the salt after a day and re-apply some more salt again making sure you rub it into all the nooks and crannies.
It's best not to use Iodised salt, if you do and are going to take it to be profesionaly taned you must tell them you used iodised salt as it will effect the outcome of the skin.
If you intend to do a mount you will have to either cape out the head and salt it or refrigerate.
