While on a quick R&R from work in WA's north I figure I'd make a little hunting trip with my son Hunter. I was dedicated in helping with the Trophy Takers display, so I put as many trophies that would fit into my 4by. 2 deer mounts 1 billy mount 30 framed photos and 4 Euro mounts later we were off. First stop Wellington to drop the trophies off at Dave Whiting’s place to be added to the display at the DO this weekend. We packed a bit of Dave’s gear in the 4by then headed a few more hours to our hunting destination in the mountains.

We had an hours light once arriving to the property so I strapped Hunter to my back and we had a good walk into the dark of night fox whistling an excellent gully that had produced good numbers of red coats in the past, but non on this afternoon were seen.

We stoked our fire in the cabin we stay and had a feed of venison. I'd had a few steaks from my 2007 trad buck left and they went down real well, Dave commented on how tender it was and I couldn't agree more with a mouth full.

In the morning we drive out to the back country spotting half a dozen excellent billys for the morning a big red boar and a few other pigs, but they were one up on us in some terrifying steep rough country. My legs certainly got a work out packing hunter in and out of the gullies, though he did walk a few.

I must say he was an extra well behaved kid all weekend and was pretty quiet when we were hunting. I loved every minute and look forward to another father son hunt, and I sure hunter will remember these times as well. Next trip you might see us sitting beside a fox or two and hopefully the 38inch billy we seen.

Myself at full draw on a mob, I took the white billy without any of the mob noticing, then Dave stalked in for practise.

Good to see your starting him young, I remember carrying my young fella BoarsBarraandBilles on my shoulders when he was still in nappies. If I tried it now I would need a resuscitation unit:P.

That's awesome Adam.:D

I just spent a few days hunting with my 8 year old son and I can remember the first time I took him bowhunting. He was 9 months old back then and slept most of the 3hrs in the seat on my back.
They are great times mate.
