View Full Version : My longbow Rusa
Guys I was lucky enough to get this guy a couple of weeks ago and have been meening to get a shot on here but have been away,Im actualy sitting here chewing on some Biltong that my south African friends made up from the Venison from this fellow(Very very tasty),he was a good lump and scored well to boot.
Bow was my Black Widow take down longbow 63@28 and Vapor carbon woods at 620grns With a Tusker Spirit (Great little broadhead for carbons)

You're chewing on ya WHAT! :D....LOL....
on ya bud,
Luke :D
Hey!
Well this will make the purists happy, really well done with a bent stick!
I would have pulled that shaft out though for the pic, a few people around here might get upset.
You can simply air bush it out, if you need a hand IÃ*ll touch it up for ya?
See Ya Pete.
Thanks Peter
I left it there as its fairly subtle not a big blood pumping shot but I know what your saying , no offence to anyone I hope , its one of the few shots I have that still have the arrow in place but I didnt think it spoiled this particular photo , If I was being totaly honest I wasnt thinking strait at the time , my head and heart were just pumping from making the shot at such close range,it was two days before I came back to earth from this one.
Again sory if the arrow offends
I personally think it's OK...I can't speak for Baz but this Admin's got no particualar dramas with this arrow..as Steely says, it is fairly inconspicuous... :?
Luke :D
No I defiantly DONT have a problem with the picture just some might? You never know what will tick some off.

Great work again Steely,
Very nice looking critter.
On the arrow in the pic thing, I agree it was inconspicuous atleast till it was pointed out, I have to agree with coach on this one
I think it is easier if you have solid and fair rules on stuff like this, IMO if you have grey areas you will always endup in the poop. Easier to have straight up rules then everyone knows where they stand.
Cheers Noel
No Dummy spitting mate , not at all , I respect everyones views on the subject and thought it better to change the photo's after what you had said, Its just that I had this one handy and I dont like to muck with origonal shots (Thats just a me thing)
Rules are rules and I meant no disrespect for the site, my appologies
It was the best of the self timed shots that I had of him thats all
Thanks again
Good going Steely, your a slayer mate. I dream of taking such beast with a stickbow.
I think this photo gives a better image on the site personally, but man to man the other photo wouldn't bother me. Just a general public rule we have hear, I know ya understand brother.
Adam
Ok this going well!
Steely I hope you donÃ*t mind but coach is right the photo I retouched for you is better.
I hope you donÃ*t mind but I posted it again. As I think you really should be proud to have taken an excellent deer with this equipment you deserve all the credit!

Man he's got a good set on him
Thanks Peter , good on you mate
Gee Adam thats a bit personal  Aren't you supposed to be looking at the quality of the deer :D :D
Very nice deer Steely. Well done.
Cheers Tim
Peter, thanks for re-touching the photo and Steely thank you for your grace in A) changing the pic and then B) Allowing Pete to post his re-touched version.
What a wonderfull animal to take with a long bow, I can only hope to take even a fraction of the game that you have and thank you for sharing.
Personally I think that Steely's photo was fine and in that I agree with Luke's intital comments.
However the problem is that once we say 'yeah that pics ok' it opens the door for photos of animals with arrows stuck in them that are far from appropriate. In this case some casual and considered discussion between admins and some long standing members was all that was necessary.
I'm attacking the Admin for the display of double standards Wink It's just not fair . I personally dont give a rats arse!
No offense Jeff but there was no need for any 'attack', Luke made a comment that was A) Fair and B) Clearly open for discussion. You had a good point to make, why you choose to do so so aggressively in public forum I cant fathom.
As far as I'm concerned we are all good people here and all this constant public negativity in the forum is more damaging than half the issues that are being re-dredged.
Personally I would like a bit of 'benefit of the doubt' occassionally rather than having to defend myself after its a public issue.
Can we please have more open debate without things degenerating to 'attacks' on admin or other members. If people have a serious beef that needs to be more than reasonable debate then save it for PMs.
And lastly sorry to hi-jack your thread Steely.
Top work Steely, what a great trophy with the longbow.
Have they been doing much in the way of rutting up your way? - things have been pretty quiet down here

Why do I get the feeling that someone has spat the dummy?
No one "spat the dummy" coach...if you were referring to me, I had to go out to attend a seminar...only got home at 11pm ish...

As I said ,, just having a go at Admin for the double standards !
Tough luck Luke ,, Talk to ya tomorrow!
Coach, it's not a competition mate...I only ever stated that I had/have no problem with the pic and the arrow where it was. Last I checked Admin had the right to determine what was and was not acceptable on this site? I'm not sure I remember when this rule was changed.
Luke
awesome trophy Steely
what lenght were the antlers?

Right, you're right!
Well done Steely...Didn't see anything wrong with the original but anyway it's fixed up now...
Regards...Sparra
Mate they were 29 and 29 2/8 almost perfectly the even , the fact that he scored the way he does was an absolute bonus he ended up at 187pts
and while he is no record breaker he will make the perfect mount and will always be one of the most special hunts I have had , I think I have taken the shot another 3000 times since in my sleep and watched him fall in full view , its going to take a very neat trick to better it for me.
Thanks again for your kind words
Simon

I can see there must be some other stags around as the heavy scaring on his neck are clearly visible!
I work on the theory to take heaps of pictures as film is cheap, or make sure you have a large memory card. I see it as your only capturing a second in time!
Good picture mate.
See ya Pete.
I got him back this week from Tony Bianco , How good a job is this , its on his new sneak form and his antlers are layed right back with his chin up just the way they do when they bust you.

Top looking trophy there Steely, you will have to get a bigger house for the extra large trophy room soon. Really nice way of presenting the head, different to the norm, i like it.

Looks great :D
Nice rusa Simon, no doubt about Tony he does fantastic work...Glenn...
That looks like a nice room to be working in Steely, although I don't know how much work I'd get done, I reckon I'd do too much reminiscing about past hunts.
Tony did a great job.
