well i have finally done it! after many failed stalking attempts and a bad shot at another dog i finally nailed a dingo.
a mate and i ducked up the gulf for a couple of days of hunting. hunting was really hard as most of the game was along the river. the river has about 15m from the water line of huntable country the rest is just impenatrable rubber vine. saw a few hogs on the 1st day but they were all just to toey. i managed to shoot 1 on our way back from camp, just a young boar but it sorta made the 18k's walked worth while. i lost a nice boar in the thick rubber vine during the heat of the day but couldnt locate him in the rubber vine. we got a storm wendsday night that soaked our gear so we made thursday our final day. we went and checked some dams out in theblack soil country. i saw this dingo and his mate attempting to pull down a new born calf. his mate saw me and did a runner but unfortunatley for this bloke he only had eyes for the young calf which made the stalk rather easy. i took the shot latter ranged @ 30m while he was sitting under a tree. it took him through the back passig through his chest. tusker spirit did its job and the dog was on a dead run from the start. he managed 50m, blood pouring from his chest and mouth. he wasnt the biggest dog but i am still on a high. i think cause i witnessed wat they do to live stock 1st hand and the fact i saved the calf made it all the more sweet. cheers Lachlan

That is great stuff Lachlan :D

My son just walked in as I was looking at the photo and asked what the story was, I said "this bloke shot a wild dog that was killing the farmers cows", the reply was a very enthusiastic COOL :D

Good stuff Lachlan. I'm sure the farmer would be very pleased to hear of what you did. Pity about the other calf killer but maybe you'll get him next time along with the hogs. Good going.

thanks guys. going out again in a fortnight, really gunna go hard on the hogs then. been really slack this year on the hunting front manly cause of work/ overseas trip/ wedding. after returning to bowhunting after 8 years hunting with dogs i really feel content with wat i am doing. i love coming home, having a few beers while makeing some arrows, tinkering with my bow or sharpening bradheads. its good to be back out in the bush and be the hunter not the follower. its amazing how my senses now work while i am in the bush compared to before.

Great stuff Cooke, Im yet to take a dingo with bow.

Always something to keep you interested in bowhunting thats for sure, I also "get off" on working with my bowhunting gear, putting a trip together or even the simple things like sharpening a broadhead to a razor sharp edge.

Cheers mate and good hutning on the next trip.

Well done on the dingo Lachlan, one of the hardest game animals to shoot with a bow, but sometimes they give you a shot at them, they have a good set of teeth on then...Glenn...
