well me and grant headed off up my favourite gully
last week
it was about 3:30pm and i had neer stalked in the evening so i had high hopes of catchin a sambar out
we had walked ubout 4 kms throught crapy bush when we arrived at the good spots we walked no more then 400m up the good spot when we got honhked at about 45m away it was a big doe and a yearling fawn
they didnt run to fast so i gave a signal to sit and wait for 5minutes or so to let them settle any way after the 5 minutes we continued up te gully with no brease and it was alittle over cast perfect,
any way we head to were we last saw them and followed there prints but we were to busy looking at the prints then for the deer and befor we knew it HOHNK 25m away through some wattle and then crash crash they were off we still went on when i knew there was a good spot ahead were theres a heavy stagliving, wallows and beads its very steep very thick green and wet
we found 2 amazing wallows that were probly used that morning there was frash mud on the ground were the stag had shaken it off and there was sign of hair and a little fern were the stag has been rubbing his guts on to get mud off
i could see grants mind sucking it in he had never seen sign like this and he had never been hohnked at and he had been hohnked at twice within 30minutes we found several wallows in the same gully all used recently we found a fresh bed on the side of the gully were the stag must look over his wallows i was spuin my camera had flat betterys
but it was getting late and we headed back down the gully we were making alot of noise and were getting abit carless because we were in a hurry to get back when HOHNK i looked up to see a little stag looking at us about 80m away he turned and took off talk about a fun little walk
sorry theres no pics
but im sure grant had some great experiences he will not forget
cheers jesse
