A lot of people don't appreciate how deadly they can be. It ain't anything like Disney portrays in their stories. My in-laws mate actually used to farm them and was near killed by a hind that was attacking a fawn it had rejected, when he tried to intervene and rescue the fawn she hoofed him down the leg just missing his femoral.

it's not good but all wild animals are unpredictable at times, so you have to be catious.

I think you should probably expect that kind of behaviour when you're trying to poke an arrow through an animal, though in that guys case it was just unlucky :(
