View Full Version : Broadhead weight
I read Dr Ashbies papers on arrow weight and penetration a few weeks ago and surprise, surprise, I have decided to increase the weight of my arrows. :) I normally shoot 60-65#POC shafts with 125 grain slim Ribteks out of a 62# centershot recurve. I want to increase the weight of my broadheads to 155- 190 grains. I have also ordered some heavier shafts but still have some POC to use up first.
My question is will the heavier broadheads have too much affect on the dynamic spine of the POC shafts?
Is as Coach says, so.. obviously if you put a heavier head on shafts you are now using, if possible, you will more than likely need to shorten the shafts to correct the weakness the heavier head has created. If you can't shorten the shaft, then, different shafts or stay with the lighter heads
Thanks guys for the replies.
I knew that increasing the weight up front would affect the dynamic spine, I was just hoping that someone had trialed heavier broadheads on similar shafts and could help cut down the trial and error for me. :D
Ya gotta love muckin around with this trad gear.
Axe, all I can say is that shaft length is not a problem for me
Seriously though I do have a couple of inches I can shorten the shafts by, thanks for the tip.
