I came home not a very happy hunter it was a long way to go not to take a bear but i know i put every thing i had into getting a bear it just wasnt ment to be, you sit every arvo for 16 days without moveing in the rain in the heat with the bugs and hey you better be on that hunt for the love of it not for the glory not for a sponsor you better be there with your heart and soul.
When i phoned my wife from LA on the way home and told her i didnt get a bear do you know what she said"when are you going back"how is that if you havent got a wife like that you better go and find one .Love you Rach.
To be continued

Great read, what broadhead is that? Whatever it is it left a huge hole in that deer!
Did you just use the bread for bait or other stuff as well?
How much did the tag soup cost?
We'd love to hear about your bear encounter, please post the rest of the story.
Bad luck not shooting a bear Shane, next time eh. Tell us about your encounters with the bears and the missed shot...Glenn...

Yes Sahne what ehad made a hole like that? Also how did the vortex Nomad spotting scope go? Looks nice and compact. I'd never sneeze at atking a whitetail, male or female. Did you get her from the stand or the ussie spot and stalk way. Welcome back mate.

Thanks guys i will go to the worst question first the missed shot,
I had been on stand about 3hrs in a gale forces wind with rain i thorught the tree i was in was going to blow over. The bear came in on the trail to the stand sat straight below me and i mean straight below i had to spread my feet apart to see the bear through the stand.
Than he went out wide and came into the bait just before dark on the right hand side of the bait with the wind i couldnt get a clear shot as the brush about half way to the bait was covering him up i came to full draw but had to let down.
Then he went into the middle of the bait thats when i got the 30m shot it was real late by this time the shot felt good but being wet and stiff from sitting so long i think i just droped my bow arm as the shot went low.
Time to go to bed see every one tomorrow night Thanks Shane
Shane, awsome mate! Great stuff with the Whitetail doe, she looks tasty:)
Too bad bout the bear, maybe a bigger one was 'meant to be' :)

A picture is certainly worth a thousand words in your yarn, Shane. The tag soup is a nice touch! A mate from Canada swears that some Kanuks favour bear meat over any other... when your very supportive wife sends you back to Minnasota next time, will you be chowing down on a bit of the old Yogi? As far as a whitetail goes- hey, we've watched far too many US whitetail videos not to want to skewer one of those beautiful beasties- a hearty, hearty congratulations on that one.
Great stuff Shane,
If it was meant to be easy it wouldn't be worth doing, RIGHT.;)
I know only to well what it fells like to miss out on a big hunt that you trained and scraped for, but as long as you know in your self you gave it everything like you did what do you do??
One question is how did you go about getting your bow on the plane, any hassles and what paper work did you have to have???
Also did you pull your bow apart to get it that case??
Grant.
It is a shame you didn't get one Shane, but some nice pictures anyway.
I'm sure it wont be too long before we see a pic of you with one:)
I know another bloke who had that same problem with dropping his bow arm, it caused him some greif too. he has been working on it though. Hopefully the machine gun has stopped;)

Hopefully the machine gun has stopped
Come on Mozza unloading the quiver was a hightlight for me. Still has me laughing thinking about the look on your face when you had your last arrow & it dropped off the string 2 m in front of you. The expression on your face was priceless.:D

Thanks guys i will answer a few of the Qs
Normgunton the locals have mixed opions on the meat it is very fatty most either use it for roasts or mince it up.
Bowdy the bow stays in one peice in a hard bow case no paper work for it,you need paper work from AQUS to bring horns skins back into the country
Belegstrong They use bread lollies chocolate dry dog food ,cost was about $3500 that was all air fairs and tags the hunt cost was nothing
The broadhead was a SONORAN 125grn in 2 blade he makes a 100grn 3 blade if any one is interested in them give Antony at GECKO a call he can get them.
Thanks Shane
Bummer about the no bear on the ground. But you gotta be happy with a white tail.
:o dam thats a huge exit wound.
Never mind Shane, the ones you think are sure things are the ones that usually leave you begging. Some excursions are a testament of will, seems as though you played out your passion for hunting on this one. Them bruins will have to wait till next time.
Nice Whitetail BTW, did you bring back the skin? They make the best rug of any deer I've seen.

Ant the spotter was great any one after a great scope for you $$$$ this is the one the warranty is just out of this world.
If i didnt have that big sonoran head i think i would have lost the doe i hit her way to low for the height from the tree stand.
Thanks Shane

Good stuff Shane. It looks like you had a great experience all the same.
Man just doing it would have been awsome, a bear would have been icing. I'm sure with 'a wife like that' you'll be going again and all the wiser for the experience.
Best wishes

Sounds like a great trip were you going to use that broadhead on the bears what sort of setup were you running, do you need a heavy bow and arrow combo for them. Could you use a setup similar to hunting pigs and can you spot and stalk bears if so is it mandatory to have a rifle for back up? Thanks.

Rinaldo sorry for the delay in replying been busy.
Yes i where hoping to put a really big hole in a bear with the new heads.
My set up was a PSE mach X 68lb with 500grn Easton 300 epics st same as all mech heads they are best if you have a bit of bow and arrow weight..
No gun back up is needed.Any set up you shoot hogs with will be great on bears hogs are one of the best to check your set up for peno on.
Thanks Shane
