hey guys

today i got up at around 6.30am to get ready to go on a hunt with howie. he gave me a quick phone call and in 15 min were off to 1 of his goat properties. the trip out there for me was as usual very exciting as i had no idea of what the day was going to become. after going thru numerous gates and spotting a couple of mobs of goats we stopped in to say gday to the farmer. we left shortly after to drive up to a ridge to check out the surroundings. right away from the car we spotted numerous mobs of goats one been a mob of over a hundred goats. we decided to stalk the big mob later and come in from a different direction. while walking along the ridge howie spotted a fox and we had a bit of a whistle recieving some interest from the fox but alot of the foxes attention going to grass hopers. he came in most of the way but then smelt danger. we quickly moved on and started stalking a mob of 50 or so goats. howie stayed back and i went in for a meat goat. i snuck down to within 40 yards of some feeding nannies and waited to they came within 20 yards before taking the shot to put her down in 20yards.

after taking all her legs and backstrapes we walked back to the car to drop some legs of to the farmer. on the way to the farmer we stopped to have a quick stalk on a mob of goats but with the wind playing havic they winded us.
the farmer took the legs and so we moved onto the big mob of over 100 goats in order to get some biggins. as soon as the stalk started it started to rain making it cold. the goats all got under the 1 tree and squished themselver together. howie started stalking in the tussocks on his hands and knees to close the distance. as the rain eased the goats started to feed of leaving howie with small goats around him but the biggin at 60 yards. they started to feed very quickly even thou they had not detected us. howie retreated and we made our way round the hill along the ridge to get in front of them. the goats were feeding as fast as we were walking and so getting in front was no easy task.

part of the big mob. the other half split up. you know when you see this you are in bowhunting heaven. we stalked these goats and other mobs on these tussock plains which made hunting hard but enjoyable. mmmm which one has bigger horns

as soon as we did get in front the goats would just change direction. this happened numerous times until howie got in a good stalk on a big white billy. howie crept close and drew twice on this monster but each draw resulted in the billy walking away with his backside to howie. also the wind so strong on the hill keeping the pin on the one spot was hard. again the goats changed direction so we precedded to get in front again. the cat and mouse game played out for a fair bit longer.we had 1 more chance at the mob and with a nice big billy being at 27 yards i thought this was it. then the goats saw howie and 1 and ran off. there were many other goats that we could of stalked but ran out of time. the wind played havoc for most of the day as well as the lack of cover and goats not being able to make up there mind.
all in all 1 goat was taken and there was many other close stalks that did not come off.

finally i would like to thank howie. he has taken me on numerous hunts and taught me most things about bowhunting. he does it free of charge and i learn alot on every trip. he also takes me to his properties with his game which is very generous, thanks buddy

Did Howie point out the Billies we passed up? Were they there? They would make terrific first trophies for any new hunter. The wind was a pain in the freckle when we were there as well. I assume it was the same place I went to, it looks familiar, so does the mob of goats.

yeah dale it was the same place you went to. howie did not think he saw the big goat you guys passed up but he found another brown goat that would go around 34-35. also spotted many other billies around the 30'' mark and a few a bit over. thanks dale

I gotta say it was very enjoyable to sit back and see the young gun stalk into the mob of goats. He took his time, waited for that perfect angle and shot and the photo is the results.
Dale, didn't see the two old billies this trip, B4E shot his goat not far from where Killer and you were positioned when the goats were filing along that fence line. I drew on 2 separate billies and couldn't hold the pin still on their chest so passed up the shots. A fine day out hunting......

By simply placing a hand over broadhead wound channels, it certainly improves the quality of the photo. I need to get back there as I have some personal issues with a couple of billies....... Howie
