I woke up this morning with the urge to get out and hunt being the last day of holidays, i decided to go for an arvo walk with my brother up the river, we left home around 1 and arrived to where we would walk from bout 20 mins later. We walked up the river for about an hour to see no goats but one little fox who winded us and bailed up the hill. We turned around when we dicided it was too hot and considering we didnt bring any water it was probly for the best of things. On the way back after walking for no longer than 10 mins we weard this bleat on the other side of the river, we contemplated whether or not to cross and look for it because i couldnt tell how far away it was, we decided to cross and look for it and sure enough just on the other side of the river was 2 mobs of goats just feeding and possibly coming to the river. We stalked for a bit only to see the tail end of the goats as a result of the bloody swirling wind.
This was a set back but we still heard more goats bleating on the other hill. From where we were we could see them heading down the hillside into the valley so thats where we went. Once we got to the bottom of the steep hill the small mob was looking good to be able to be ambushed on there way down. We tried to get into position but we scared a mob of roos which spooked another mob of goats, that we hadnt seen, back up the hill:mad::mad:
Being pretty keen to get one i followed the goats up this hill which was a back breaking climb in the heat of the day.
I got to the top of this monsterous hill to hear my brother behind me calling out 'PSST OI ****HEAD THERES A GOAT RIGHT THERE':P and sure enough i turned around to see a nanny stroll past at 10metres:o between these two massive rocks, i stalked to see if i could intercept her on the other side but it went the other way and i couldnt find her.
My brothrer struggled his way to the top and we kept following the bleats, i spotted them a good 150m away in the bush and signaled to my brother to be careful as we aproached, we came down onto one of the mobs but there were no good billy's and we let them go. As we moved onto the other mob i spotted two shootable billy's that i would aim to get a go at.
We stalked for a while and to my surprise a young billy walked right at us but i was reluctant to take the shot because of the larger billy i wanted but as he got closer i drew but as i began to settle he took off taking the biggest billy with him and afew nannys but did not disturb the rest of the mob:D. i picked out the next two larger billy's in the mob and tried getting close.
The smaller of the two billy's seemed the easiest to get close to for the shot so when he was preoccupied eating a bus i got to about 30m but he began to move on, in a desperate bid in trying to stay close i got spotted by a nanny in the mob but she lost interest and settled back down. As the mob slowly fed away from me i got in to about 30m from the billy again and to my surprise he turned and walked to within 20m and as we went behind a tree i drew, he caught sight of me and stopped and copped a woody surpreme tipped gold tip straight through both shoulder and he ran only 15m metres and died right on the spot:D:D.
This had me amazed at my luck and once again stoked with the performance of a sharp surpreme. We had a photo session and took his head as he is my P.B. billy then walked back to the bikes to go home for some well deserved cold water.
This is him:D
