I headed out for a hunt on Sunday arvo hoping to find a pig or two, it was HOT very HOT, so I walked a little and glassed alot. Well as is usually the case I saw a whole lot of nuthn by the time the sun was starting to dip behind the hills I had a good 5km to get back to my truck.
When I was about 500m from my truck I thought, I’ve got enough light to have a quick look on the creek flat for a rabbit or maybe even a fox. I came over a rise to a fence line bordering the creek paddock and there she was, sitting 35m from me looking straight at me. I had no cover, the breeze was at my back and she was watching me intently ready to bolt at any moment.
I weighed up my options. I had no chance at improving my position as she was eyeballing me and as the light was poor and fading fast I decided to try for a shot, I turned on my sight LED, drew back, placed the 30m pin high on her shoulder and let it fly.
I herd the familiar thud of a Brodhead finding its mark and she disappeared from sight.
As I walked over I could make out the shape of her lifeless body, she had dropped where she stood.
Unfortunately my arrow was not so easy to locate in the near pitch blackness as it had passed through and continued on its merry way to parts unknown.
