View Full Version : Back Country Backpacking
I received my new Back Pack today thanks to Puk for the great services and sale price. So I loaded it up with all my supplies and for 3 days I'll be scouting the valleys out at the same place I took Hunter and Dave Whiting a month back. A dozen arrows and a strung recurve and Im off. Full report come thursday or friday.
Adam
Good luck! Thats hunting! Take a lot of pics!
Sounds like it's going to be a great hunt Adam, good luck mate.
Good luck Adam, that's the way to hunt...Glenn...

I'm back from back packing and although nothin hit the ground the trip couldn't have gone better. I lost 4 kgs hiking around the mountains and keeping away from junk food, the new pack was brilliant and while it did give the shoulders a work out it was better then expected. The slopes were steep and valleys long, camp was nothing more then a sleeping bag rolled out at the end of the day were ever I ended up. The last morning was the best, I walked a little ways in the dark to reach a vantage point to sleep at. I woke around half hour before first light and set my tripod and spotting scope up. I had some breakfast and sharpened a few arrows while light approached. Glassing over the valley floor and rigde line I counted 14 pigs. 2 small mobs of sows and piglets 2 big lone boars and another 2 boars that were together.
I also spotted 4 foxes and 1 good mob of goats about 70 strong by mid morning. It took 2 hours to reach the second lone boar but by that time he was moving back into the tussic covered gully and I never caught up with him once he reached the cover of the gully. There will be a better write up of this journey in bhdu in a few issue.
The real success in this trip was gaining access to 3 other properties on the way there with a possibility of another 2. All with game to drool over.

Great stuff Adam :D
I'm soooooooo jealous ;)
I aspire to what you have just done. Congratulations on getting out there and doing it. How many km's did you walk and how big was the property?
Ado
Thanks guys.
Ado, property is about 7000acres (airial) but double that by ground with all the valleys and hills, thats over 2 properties that ajoin.
I never took my gps to keep track of kms but I certainly rack a few up no dout. I basically covered the 3 best valleys on the place which all run off the same ridge line.

great pics and story. thats the sort of hunting i hope to do in the near future.
thanks
Thanks everyone it was a great hunt and certainly one of many to come.
One of the new places has better pig numbers from what the owner said and once again most of it is only accessable by hiking in and staying the night to hunt the best areas at day break, really steep country which is great.
Anyways I'm back to work tomorrow and the next hunt will have to wait.
Afew more pictures from the trip.

Amazing photography once again, Adam! Thank you for sharing!
.......I have no words....AWESOME! Beatifull place for hunting, beatifull
I think you need a partner to help you take that backpack!:D Or maybe for cooking? ummm...or just for taking pictures???
Hope to see more of your adventures adam.
Tali, Like I said before, anytime your over mate Ill take you out hunting, but since you offered you can carry my backpack and do the cooking ;) .
Stevenn, I think the black fella would go 35inches while the white billy would be lucky to hit 30inches, but there both looking like great potenial trophy animals and I'd be happy to take the black billy just for the way he was so switched on, certainly a educated animal when it comes to being hunted.
Adam
Good photo's as usual Adam, looks like a fantastic place to hunt...Glenn...
unreal adam, every time you read about one of your hunts its full of great pictures and quality game. Sounds like one hell of a place to hunt. I wish i could find a billy with a 35 inch spread in the flinders. Very few and far between down here...
