G-day everyone,
Spent the arvo hunting on the hill with my daughter as Keith had come down with the flu. What a crap time of year to get the flu.

It was fairly hot so I decided to go out a little early to see if I could find some pigs on the water down in the gullys. I told Kate it would be hard going because of the heat and steepness of the climb back out after we got to the end of the gully.
Kate has never been out with me before with the bow and offered to come along in place of her brother to keep me company and to take a few happy snaps as we went.

Due to the wind blowing the wrong direction for my origanal plan of attack I had to walk around the northern side of the hill and climb it to come out at the head of the gully I wanted to hunt. By the time we reached this point Kate was buggered.

I decided after spending 10 minutes glassing the area that Kate would really struggle getting through the hike. The heat was knocking the skip out of her step. So we just headed back down the middle of the ridge back to the car.A nice cold drink and a rest and Kate was ready for plan B. Plan B was made up on the way down the hill.
We headed accross to another spot I have found pig digging on several occasions. On the way we found a dead calf that had been in a gully for some time. Looked like the pigs had had the odd feed on it. So we walked 50mtrs further up the hill and sat watching over the clear area for the last hour or so of light.
It was good to just sit and chat about trivial stuff in the cool breez. Actually it was more like a 30knot wind. Blowing directly into our faces.
As i was talking i was constantly serching the opposite stand of lantana with the binos. Then out of nowhere a pig comes wandering out only to duck back into the thick cover a second later.
Kate got very excited and wanted to see and grabed the binos off me. Took her a few minutes to find the pig but it eventually came out bringing along its mates. All up 8 of them appeared.

There is one missing in the pic he was further back from the mob.
I told Kate we had to wait for them to get closer and then when we figured out what way they intended to go we could stalk closer. We watched them for the next 15 minutes move in and out of the lantana and ever so slowly closer to us. And then one by one they walked into the lantana and diddnt come back out. There was no way they could have smelt us as the wind was way to strong and directly at us. And at no time did they show any alarm. I guess they just feed of to a better spot. We waited for 45 minutes untill the light was too dim to shoot properly but they didnd come back out.
Kate was wraped at seeing some pigs on her first outing and Keith was upset he missed out again. Could have had a bit to do with the tall tales Kate spun as soon as she walked in the door when we got home.
Once again the pigs on the hill have out done me but Im happy to have just seen the buggas again. And its only a matter of time before one of them slips up and Keith or Kate and I get a chance to send an arrow there way.
C ya

Darren.
