Hey guys, I am new to the Cairns area and was wondering where I could go to do some boar hunting in the Cairns (Innisfail-Port Douglas) area. State Parks, Public land, crown land etc..

Any help would be good. PM me if you like so you don't give those big secrets away.

Cheers

Kris

As far as I am aware you are not allowed to hunt any public land in QLD, all the hunting I have done up this way has been on private property.

That's what I thought might be the case. Are there any bow-hunting friendly station owners or farmers around the region that might be willing? I have a couple on hand to go to, but they are only smaller properties.

I had a few stations that i used to hunt regularly, but in the last couple of years they have all been sold and access denied. I guess you could just ring around abit, and when you get a place you could take me with you:)

mate hunted for 10 years in this area (with dogs) not bowhunter freindly terain at all. get up over the range and do a door knock. bow hunters are highly regarded round here. i'd suggest the mt garnet area for a close weekend run. only bout 3-4 hours away. not huge numbers, or the cape or gulf 4 - 8 hours dependig on how far u want to venture.

Like Cooke said, get up over the range where the country opens out a bit. Sugar cane and bowhunting aren't a great mix. You'll find most land that's not under cane is World Heritage anyway. All state forests in Queensland come under the banner of National Parks & Wildlife. Around Kuranda has plenty of funky little areas like Koah and Kowrowah that harbour plenty of pigs. Beat feet and knock on doors Bud. You'll find most people are obliging towards bowhunters if you present yourself well and don't come across as a Yobbo. Good luck, there is 1000 pigs to every man, woman and child on Cape York. Get into them...

was talking to a mate last night, he just got back from a trip to a station he has access to. He got 70 pigs in a week using dogs and rifles. I will have to try and get a trip with him.

Dunno about hunting, but Port Douglas, Innisfail and all that area are really nice just to be in.
