I would seriously talk to Antony at Gecko about tripods. I got a vortex one from him a couple of months back and it is very smooth and stable, even under the weight of my rather hefty spotting scope. He has a vast range to suit all of your needs, be it still shot camera, video or spotter. There are evne some graphite ones which will keep the weight right down when carting it about
I found a small tripod in KMart that had extendable legs, only problem was it only extended about 250mm and half the time it would be below grass level. I removed the bottom two sections of the legs so I could use arrows as legs.

I use a smaller version of the ultrapod. It works well with the little camera I use but I wouldn't think of using it with an SLR. You don't have to pay postage from TAD you can buy them at Paddy Palins
Ive got a little one which is about the same size as Wellsy's one. but rather then the extendable legs it's got flexable legs about 10cm long.
I took the round rubber feet off of the legs and they are a perfect fit inside my carbon shafts (just need to remove nocks of course).
Not real user friendly or adjustable but it works for now.
