View Full Version : Hare Call
Well to say I have seen a few hares of late would be a under statement, I've been seeing from 6 to around 18 hares on any given afternoon hunt after work but with little success on closing the distance to my recurve range out on the flats. They won't squat for me or feed around any cover for me to close the distance, though Im sure spot and stalk will work soon enough Im keen to enjoy some hare calling with what I believe woul dcome with better success.
Does anyone know where one could purchase a hare caller, I had seen them advertised some time ago I think in sporting shooter?
Or does anyone know what a hare sounds like maybe I can mimic it and call a few in.
thanks

Adam, Mozza had one come in when they were calling in foxes last week. I'm not sure what the name of the call is but it was a pretty interesting tale about the hare.

Good luck mate, I haven't seen one for quite sometime. Would a fox caller work, as I have heard that other rabbits congregate around injured ones?
Yeah I have had the odd hare come into the tin whistle and quite a few rabbits in the past but no luck so far, hoping a purpose built hare call might have more success, mayne mozzys call sounds a little different to the tin whistle again
Adam, me and Rory used a scotch predator call and called a hare in the other day. He came running in like a fox.
Give me a call sometime and I will sort you out;)

Eh I might give this a go someday, I know there are still some rabbits around our property, and I've seen what I guess is a little fox hole.

when i used to do alot of spot lighting in one particular farmers paddock, he had alot of lucerne. When i first brought my scotch predator call, it used to call in more hares in it than foxes. i also remember when curious rabbits used to sneak in slowly when i used to call foxes with the tin whistle some mornings. you would think if the call is supposed to mimic these animals in distress they would run the other way not come closer.
AAAH Howie your a funny buggar you made me laugh, thanks

For people maybe, but altruism in animals other than humans is pretty rare
I heard what I thought was a hare call...
Advanced hair yeh yeh
Personally I wouldn't want to call in Mo Matthews or Warnie but thats just me.

Whenever my dad copped any **** about being bald he used to say "why cultivate on my head what grows wild around my arse" LOL
I am a firm believer that god only made a few good looking heads, the rest he hid with hair!

I got one of those scotch preditor calls from another member on here, when it arrived I gave it a quick squeeze and my wife said that if I ever did that in the house again she would put a knitting needle down the end of it.A bloke I was talking to the other day said you just give it a hit on the sealed end don't pull
it all the way out and let it go
