what is wrong, every body was very safe mate.
I did see them but people have to use a little common sense...The first video looks to me like your shooting lane past the butt is headed straight for the back door of the house next door...the fella holding the camera in the second one is just a little off to your left so in both of these there is the potential to shoot someone...I know it may never happen and I could be reading more into them than I should but the potential is there....
Cheers...Sparra

Ive seen arrows bounce off the top of targets just like that and keep going ;)

yep, too much concrete and stuff to deflect off... shoot enough arrows in that environment and eventually one will richocet.
look into some sandbags or other soft material for backing maybe?

Im not having a go, but shooting a compound bow in surburbia with a house so close to your boundary line, one little slip or miss and........
Just isnt worth the risks!
I wouldnt shoot at anything in backyard unless i had a decent contaiment area. There is a reason why clubs have to have upto 300mtr fall out area for safety.
Again, who cares what people do in their own backyard however if I were my neighbour, I very doubt id like you shooting in my direction with compound bow.

yer, i would talk to your perents and ask for a small bit of land along the back fence (or whatever side is more safe) and get some bails of old hay and put up a small wall.
I use a 30m long fenced of lane parralal to the house and about 30m away... if i miss the big durt mound at the end theres about 2-300m of clear backdrop.
These guys are right mate!! Move that butt or dont shoot at all until you have someting alot safer than that.
There was an incedent a few years back where a young fella was practising in his back yard. One arrow missed the butt, went through the panel fence and drove into his neighbours leg who was sitting reading his Sunday paper.
I don't mean to be rough on ya mate but I think some for thought of what ya doing and whats behind your intended target needs to be addressed pronto!

im so stupid. :(:(
Sorry mate but I dont think the money side of it is an issue. If you dont have a safe area to practise then don't shoot at all mate, just ain't worth the risk to injure someone. Ya mum is a very game lady standing there! Not bagging you out mate just trying set you right and see the possible outcome if your release didn't go to plan. You being a left hander and your mum standing to your left and way out in front could be fatal if that arrow happen to fall of your rest upon release. Don't think for a minute that it will not happen, it does, I have seen it. I have said enough mate and I hope you sort something out so you can practise. cheers

in that first video spider, I was hoping the arrow would nick the pool on the way through lol.
sorry mate, just joking
Mate maybe you should join yor local club (Gleneagles I think) and the more you mingle with guys that have been doing this for a long time the more you learn not only about safety but hunting aswell .Ask questions and most people are willing to help, take in what you see and learn at the club about their range and try and impliment these things when your considering setting up your own range ie: a good backstop. Not every one can shoot in their back yard its just the way it is.
You should check out a book (maybe mum can get it for you for xmas) that can only do you good called National Bowhunter Education Manual and ask the club about gaining your proficiency. They will train you in all aspects of bowhunting then test you then award you with your certificate if you pass :)
Good luck
Rod
You can get the book here http://www.bowhunters.org.au/shophunt.html

Mate dont put your self down about it... it's just a simple mistake.
Oh and a little tip... if ya perents wont let you use a different part of the yard then get them to read this thread... maby it will change their thoughts.

Hey dude that is very risky in suburbia...:o
By the way i'll just give you a bit of constructive critisism...when you shoot hold your bow in the same position until after the arrow has hit the target.
I saw that you moved your bow right down straight after you released. This can greatly affect your arrow flight. :D;)
Good luck mate...SH ;)

Bloody hell mate!!!! Thats scary, You really didn't think this through did ya mate? It's shooters like yourself who give junior shooters a bad name and put others at risk. With just the slightest slip up you could kill someone. You should be ashamed
i don't think thats necessary!
He is still learning and no tragic accident has occurred!
Spidey, i'm sure you will make some safe changes to the way you shoot and as was said before, no harm done. Constructive criticism is ok, but actively ragging on the bloke because no one pointed it out to him is a bit rich. :(
a few suggestions are,
Boogie boards,
Hay bales
Tons and tons of cardboard (don't get it wet) and tie it together with rope.
and sand,
All the best,
Will

Mate you shouldn't say sorry because you weren't aware.
What you should do is work on fixing the problem.
Also try getting plastic wrap (pallet wrap) from supermarkets.
it doesn't stop broadheads but it will stop points really well.
I have four old packing boxes, two wide two deep. they stand about a meter high and they are stuffed with butchers paper. My target is one of those red white and blue striped bags that you can pick up from red dot for a couple of bucks, then stuffed full of wrap. That sits in front of the four boxes.
about three meters behind my target is a whole heap of packing boxes that are folded up and leaning against the wall.
I only shoot 15 meters usually but sometimes hit 20 as I want to see the whites when I take the shot.
if these guys give you too much grief its because they forget that they were young and stuffed up every now and then.
Just learn and you'll be laughing

thanks for that glenn, and i havnt shot for 3 days from talking about this and i am itching to shoot, so could you put some of that stuff inbetween each piece of cardboard?
do you have a pic of the target glenn?
Danny if you can join a club save up what ever you will learn a real lot.
Some on in the club may live near you and even if they dont once a month will help a lot.
Good luck with it all

the only person i know near me is ben (arra slinger) and i dont want to bother him, the one time we went for a hunt i got my first kills and learnt a heap from him, one of the most knowledgable hunters i have met and would love to shoot and learn from him whenever i could, but i dont think he whants a 14 year old bothering him.

spidey you're way ahead of most 14yr olds as far as archery/bowhunting goes, so just give up on getting the BIG game mate and worry about refining your skills (with what money, time, safe shooting conditions etc allow - unfortunately that's life when you're a suburban teenager) for the time to be mate.
you'll get/have your day.
remain keen, practise and continue to ask away here mate.
arra slinger (like most bowhunters) has probably little to offer off-hand to anyone and he's been so good as to wet your bow. you're hell lucky alright.
chill a bit danny and you will get what you want outta bowhunting.
the whole 'hunting' thing is just the best excuse i can think of for getting out bush anyway. think about that and the freedom that will come from a bit of hard work between now and when leave school etc.
innocence/ignorance is bliss to an extent and you're it so don't worry too much anymore about dodgy vid mate. take onboard and move on - mistakes are stepping stones.
