2 Watt Uniden twin pack ( UH064sx-2 ), they are rechargeable but you can just fit normal AAA batteries in if it goes flat in the field, come with extras like headset etc, check them out on the Uniden Site.http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_index_transceivers_handheld_radios.asp

You may be able to buy them through one our sponsors?

There are better ones up to 5 watt and fully waterproof but they are fairly expensive, I have used this unit for the last 2-3 years with no problems, they have been wet, dropped, left out overnight and they are still going strong. You can buy cheaper ones but you get what you pay for.

When your in the bush and you need to contact your mate the radio is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks RS. Was looking at the Uniden units and they seem to be good value to.
What other brands are out there?

GME is doing a few double pack deals (i think, might have finished, not too sure). I picked up a UHF for the Lux with a 6db and 9db aerial for about $300. You can also get an in car UHF and 2 hand helds for about the same price i think. I have a good quality Uniden (5watt - bout 15km range) for work so i use that.
Check out Ebay, usually a few good bargins on there

I have the 5 watt uniden uh075, they are a good unit and you can pick them up on ebay reasonably cheap too.
Also they are waterproof too, worth spending the few extra dollars as I went through two other radios due to water damage:( and this one has been going two years now

The Uniden UH075 is the go. I got one brand new off ebay for $305 posted, as opposed to $450 at **** Smiths. Being a bit of a cheap skate, I did baulk at $300, but it's the best 5w radio on the market. As RS said; you get what you pay for, and I haven't regretted for a minute.

I'd been considering getting an in-car UHF, but even they are about $300. The UH075 has the same transmission strength, and as it comes complete with a car charger, I've now got a radio for the truck, with the bonus of being portable when I want to go for a walk.

You can also turn it into a 1w unit at the press of one button, when you don't need the full 5w range, and that saves on battery power. Having said that; when I got the unit months ago, it was fully charged, and I haven't had to charge it up again yet.

I have a Uniden 780 very similar to the 075 an excellent 5 watt unit and being waterproof is a big plus especially when crossing rivers etc.
I have tried many of the Uniden and gme 1 and 2 watt units and none compare to the 5 Watt.

Once owned an ICOM 5 watt radio (model IC-41S) before managing to lose it in a swamp. Will be buying another. Four of us used them on this years territory trip and they worked well and are very compact. If you can afford it go a 5 watt in whatever brand you get.

I used to own a couple of uniden raidos in 1 watt, until a mate gave them a swim in a swamp;):D (know anything about that Tom;)) they don't do well under water.

Go the 2 Watt Uniden twin pack. It is the best value for money and they are a great piece of kit.

I have to agree with the Uniden posts here. I have the Uniden something or other twin packs myself and cannot fault them at all...

Thanks for the replies guys.
Uniden was always at the top of my list but wanted to see if there was a comparable brand out there worth considering. So it doesn't apear to be any so will go a Uniden.

Pending $$$ available I'll either look at getting the twin pack (would be handy when hunting with others) or the single 5W unit (then stuff the others they can bring their own hehehe).

Will see what turns up on fleaBay to.
