for christmas im going to buy myself a recurve. id like to buy a one peice bow and was looking at spending around $400-$500, and for starters would like something around 45lb-50lb. Can anyone give me a few pointers on a good bow i could get. and also if my draw length for the compound is 27" will it be the same for the recurve?
cheers....Tom

Hey Tom, I'd check these out, the ones down at the bottom of the post appeal to me more than the first ones. From what I understand a recurve rated 50lb@28 will drop 3-5lb per inch, ie you drawing that bow to 27in would equal 45-47 lb, but don't take my word as gospel on that, there will be others on here who will tell you more accuratley.

Cheers Wal
those or the Samick Equis which are good cheap recurves aswell. Not seen the Internature yet but they look ok at first glance. Seen the Equis shoot a few times and a very nice bow for the money.

When going from compound to trad you should get a bow that has about 25% less draw weight than your compound and your draw length is a bit shorter with trad gear.I have a 70# compound and my recurve is 55# @28''.This is good for me.I draw 28'' with my compound and my recurve is about 26'', 27''.I hope this helps.

If you have the choice and a budget of $400 to $500 you may consider buying a second hand bow from the states. You can generaly get a better bow for your money and the resale is better if you decide that trad isn't your thing. I shoot longbows and recurves all around 55-60# and find them to be ample for hunting. checkout www.ozbow.net , www.tradgang.com and www.stickbow.com as these are all great trad sites ,and there are alot of bows for sale in the US at the moment coz their hunting season is finished.
